  • Please Help, Just ordered Uneekor and need Projector and general advice

Biggest question right now is what kind of projector to use, will be mounted over head have 10'3" inches to cross beam, screen size is 10x10. Please tell us what best projector to buy will be, we have plenty of room length wise to go back but are limited to 10 feet width wise at impact screen

I bought a BenQ MP780ST which sits about 5'4" from the screen for a 10ft wide screen. I got it for $100 on eBay and its been perfectly fine.

Here is a site to help on projector choice gives the data on them so you can see what does what.
Calculate the exact throw distance and screen size for any projector. Use the Projection Calculator Pro to adjust zoom, check image brightness (fL), and find the perfect placement for your home theater installation.

How much ambient light will you have? I find that lumens are more important than resolution/contrast with a golf sim especially if you playing with surrounding lights on. If you plan to use your screen also for movies and gaming, then you'll need to pay attention to contrast, color gamut/accuracy, and resolution of a projector.

There will be considerable ambient light, But we will have 10x10 enclosure with heavy duty vinyl tarping to darken it

Something else to consider is the need for a short throw lens which can increase the cost. Without the short throw lens, in order to fill a larger screen, it needs to be mounted much further back.

Also, among many other things, don't forget to consider reflected light back from the screen. That and the ceiling reflections make significant contributions to poor light control, depending on what the hues of those surfaces are...YMMV

If I were in the market right now for a projector I would scope out benqdirect website refurb short throw or ultra short throw projectors and pick the highest lumen that offers 1080p.
Also would check out avsforum classifieds. Usually that site is more high end jvc and sony projectors but occasionally you see a 1080p short throw for sale.

It might be useful to phone a few of the projector sales persons at AVS as well. Enquiring as to the upcoming projectors, their specs, etc. might obviate some Buyers' remorse...

FURY has purchased several projectors through AVS, including running their first DILA projector Group Buy, FWIW. Mike Garrett, among others, is very knowledgeable over there.

                      Thank you very much

Who was the seller? I don't see any that cheap unless they have thousands of hours on them.

Kge on eBay. They were old education units I think. Mine only had 1700 hours on the lamp and it’s been perfect thus far in what brief time I’ve had it.

I am in the exact same boat. Ordered Uneekor and am working on components now. I had gone through a thousand posts about projectors and finally just went down to the pga superstore. They use the Casio XJ-V10X. They run it 10 hours a day and after 2 years they havent had to replace one yet (they have 6 running). That's good enough for me.
