  • Ceiling mounted short throw projector setup.

Hey guys wondering what your ceiling mounted projector setup looks like? Ideally short throw. And if anyone has anytype of ceiling enclosure to ensure no clubs hit it?

I have the Optoma GT1080 darbee short throw floor mounted with enclosure but I find I have to move it off centre as to not hit it on lower shots resulting in an uneven picture display on the screen.
I'm thinking of doing a ceiling mount on a 9 feet basement ceiling but wanted advice on setup that others have successfully done ideally with pictures?

    Thanks

If it’s mounted in the center of your screen and your target line is also centered you really shouldn’t even come close to hitting it with a club. The issue you will have is the large image offset with this projector. The top of your image will be quite a bit below the center of the lens. I have the optoma gt1080 .

I have the same or similar situation to you. 9' ceiling and I use the GT1080Darbee too. My room is small, so I hit offset a couple of feet, but the projector is mounted almost directly overhead. With my original setup I would tag the projector with short iron follow throughs every now and again... was very disconcerting!!!

Originally I bought an inexpensive projector mount: It's pretty good quality, especially for the price. Problem is that it hangs the projector waaaay too low when you have 9' ceilings.

Then I bought this one... four times the price, but SO much shallower and great quality. I love it:

I experimented with different methods of protecting it from the occasional "wonky" swing that would still tag it sometimes (cage/box/lexan 'shield'), but in the end none were awesome. I eventually cut into my ceiling enough so that the mount was recessed and the lens of the projector was unobstructed.

That last step did the trick! I don't have to move to the final option which would have been to raise my ceiling height.

      Hope this helps!

Incidentally, I'm 5'11' and a bad enough golfer that I still have wonky swings now and again lol

I use the following ceiling mount with an Optoma GT1080 HDR in my garage with a 9.5’ ceiling. The projector is center-mounted two-feet closer to the screen than the hitting area.

Here you go, shnekx ! I measured the distance from the bottom of the projector to the floor (I have putting turf) and it's 8'8"... A lot of effort, but I only lost 4"

ps - I'm not a good drywaller, but it was a finicky job and I'm ok with the result

Thanks. Awesome nice how you recessed the ceiling a bit. I'll definitely get a low profile projector mount and since my basement is not finished hoping I can raise it/make shift into the joints as much as possible. Do you ever clip the projector with current setup with any irons?

not even close now. Due to the changed mounting and the recessed ceiling it is a full eight to ten inches higher. Makes all the difference. My buddy is 6'4" and he wasn't close either. Good luck!
