  • BenQ Options & Questions

    Hey guys,

I'm working on building my first sim build and have an opportunity to pick up a couple used BenQ projectors.

Curious if anybody had any experience with either of these models? Looks like they both can do 1080?

The first is the BenQ-HT2050 https://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-HT2050.htm

The second is the BenQ-8720 https://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-PE8720.htm

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Best of luck with your build !!!
If your choosing between those 2 projectors, .... i don't think 1000 Lumens form the 8720 will be enough. The 8720 is also a very old model...if your buying it used you will probably have to change the bulb. Allot of us on here use the Optoma gt1080 Darbee its definitely worth looking at.

Appreciate the input. Is the HT2050 a decent option instead?

I use a 2050, and have no complaints. My back wall (where it’s mounted) to screen is only 14 feet, so the picture is a little smaller than I’d ideally want, but it works well. I have a large set of windows on the right side wall (48”w x 70”h)...wood blinds let a bit of light thru, but no issues. I also watch HD sports via Firestick stream. Projector never lags or stutters. It’s been very solid for me, and I’d recc.

That’s great to hear! I found one used for a good deal so I think I’ll pick it up.

What are the dimensions of your screen? I also already have a BenQ HT2050 that I'm considering repurposing for the sim while I consider 4K options for next year.

Screen is 8 x 8, the projected image is 8w x ~5h. I basically zoomed it to fit side by side and took what I got height-wise. It’s not a large space.

I have it set so the top of the picture is 6.5’ from the floor...just above eye level, as I’m 6’3”.
          Working...
