  • Projectors with 2D Keystone?

Hey guys, I’ve been scouring these forums for a thread to help with my simulator build, but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I’m building a pretty standard simulator in my garage (9’ ceiling, 10’ wide screen, 13’ total room width), but I’d prefer to mount the projector a foot or two right of center since I have a bit of an Arnold Palmer-like helicopter finish to my swing, and I’m concerned that I’ll hit the projector if it’s mounted in the center of the screen.

I’ve been looking for a projector with 2D keystone so I can adjust the image back to square, but the only short throw projector I can find is only 2200 lumens, which wouldn’t be bright enough. Does anyone know of any other reasonably priced ($1,200 or less) projectors that have 2D keystone and over 3000 lumens?

If I chose to use a standard short throw projector without horizontal keystone, how much distortion to the image should I expect for every foot it’s moved off center on a 10’ wide screen?

I might have finally stumbled upon a good option, the ViewSonic PS600W. It's got horizontal and vertical keystone, with 3500 lumens. The only potential issue is the resolution is only 1280x800, and it doesn't look like they have a comparable HD model. Is anyone using this projector in their build?

Just make sure the aspect ratio is what you need. If you are using a more square screen you need the 4:3. Most 1080 projectors do both.

This is a great choice, but it does not do 4:3 https://www.focusedtechnology.com/op...projector.html

That is the issue I am running into. I need something with a lot of keystone adjustment that is bright. It is hard to find. If you can wait Optoma is coming out with a new one next month it should be available.

I may just wait and get this. I ordered it almost 2 months ago and decided to cancel the order because it keeps getting pushed back.

I was planning on putting my projector on the floor or a table next to the launch monitor.

Where did you see that the EH460ST does not do 4:3? According to the specs on Optoma's site, these are the compatible aspect ratios: 16:9 (native), 16:10, 4:3 and LBX compatible.

The GT1090HDR also looks like a great option, but it's not out yet.

The ZH406ST looks like it's in stock at several online retailers, where did you order from that it keeps getting pushed back?

We have a 16:10 formatted screen, will EH460 work? Do you sacrifice resolution when the spec says "compatible" not native?

You are right on the EH460ST not sure how I missed that. I ordered the ZH from officewonderland....shady shady place. I called focustechnology to get the scoop. It may be worth waiting on one of those other two. The specs look very promising.

What is the difference between the ZH and GT? The specs look almost identical.

                  Closed Captioning

                  Geometric Correction
                  HDR

Just spoke with Focus and they are the same thing. The only thing different is the warranty.

Bump to this thread. How do you like it? I'm really having difficulty finding a projector I can use off center. I CANNOT mount it, my ceilings are 25 feet tall. I CANNOT make an horizontal angle iron system as one of the sides doesn't have a wall. The problem is all of the projectors I want DO NOT have horizontal keystone and I would have to have it centered and in my swing, sight line etc.

The Benq TH671st? Great projector. Love everything I hear about it. BUT no horizontal keystone.
GT1080 Darbee? Seems not quite as good as the Benq but fine. Still no horizontal keystone.
Optoma EH460ST maximum I would want to spend. Super bright and HAS horizontal keystone but it's a business projector and I've read it won't have the best colors for home theater use and golf sim use.

I'm at a loss of what to do.

I have not used the projector much. I am in the middle of a 16ft retractable screen build. I have used the projector for outdoor movie nights and it is great. If it did have optical zoom it would be perfect. But once you mount it in the correct spot and focus it, it will be good and done.
