  • New Projector.....Optoma GT 1090 HDR

I am moving into a new house in May...… so that means new sim room with all new stuff.

Optoma GT1090HDR projector specs, projector reviews and current street prices.

    Thoughts?

My image will be 16x 9 feet. I would like the projector to be 8-12 feet away.

I ended up with the Epson 5050. I have had the Epson 5040 in the past and it was excellent. The 5050 is maybe overkill for a simulator but the image is great plus it has lens shift which is awesome to center up image. I can go from 9:16 image to 4:3 with a few clicks on remote to get desired image resolution depending on what software Im using. Contrast is great on new projector. I included two photos, first one is Epson and other is Optima.

Nice...... A few things that are drawing me to the GT1090HDR.
      1. Price....seems good for the specs.
      2. Fricking Laser
      3. Short throw. Mounting about 8-9 feet away is important to me.
      4. I have some experience with Optoma.... happy with what I saw.
      5. 2160p/60...... assuming it is upscaling. Might be good for Home theatre.
      6. Lumens ....not all that important as I will have no windows in the room.

I am probably going to go with the GT1090HDR.

I received my GT1090HDR Monday evening. I believe this thing is a steal for $1500 all-in. There appears to be nowhere to upload a picture while making a comment. I started an OPTOMA thread for another unit. If you look for it and my name "brioni21" you can see what I posted.

I am sure it will be a great purchase! I hope you update the thread with experience with new projector. I am not wanting to sway you one way or the other, just wanted to let anyone reading that the 412st had some issues in my experience. I read that optima is the go to brand for most with simulators. Laser will be a nice feature.

Other then lamp life, what does a laser give you over a regular bulb? I have the 1080 HDR. The 1090 came out after I purchased mine, but have wondered how much of a difference there is between the two when viewing on an good impact screen. I came from a 760 so I have really nothing to compare. There was a noticeable difference from the 760. The 1080 and 1090 are very close in specs. I would assume they will discontinue the 1080?

      Optoma GT 1090 HDR

I purchased the Optoma GT 1090 HDR in mid-June. The projector is awesome except there's a defect on the lens that required me sending it back last week and getting a replacement. I noticed an area the size of a football that seemed darker than the rest of the image with similar color. I inspect lens with a magnifying glass. There appears to be a pitted space rock etched from the lens. It's definitely a defect and Optoma is gladly replacing the unit. The photo uploaded is projected onto a freshly painted textured white wall. It's a great pic, enclosure w/premium screen is on the way. Projector will be mounted 5' 5" away from screen to produce 130"w x 73"h. The standard enclosure is 5', I shortened it to 54" to not interfere with the projector. Short throw is a great thing, but it's so short it becomes a challenge too. I'll post pics when it's all up. This has been a project. I painted the room in April. I haven't even begun to research the simulators yet.
