Optoma GT1080 short throw

Hi All

After some advise - after hours of research iim leaning towards the Optoma GT1080 short throw. I haven't got a huge budget and heard they are good value for money?

I have 8ft from the screen so looking to mount the projector on the ceiling above the golfers stance to avoid shadows. Hoping this will work.

Any advise would be more than welcome

The GT1080 short throw has a throw ratio of 0.5 which means that 8 ft away from the screen will project an image of 16 ft wide. So how far to place the projector is a function of the size of the screen you are projecting to.

my screen is only 9ft wide so would have to have this projector 4.5ft away - do you think this would cause an issue?

The primary concern is to avoid hitting your projector with either your club or golf balls. And that is a function of how high you’ll mount the projector and how far back your hitting area is. For avoiding golf ball impact, the conventional wisdom says the launch angle for a flop shot maxes out at 51 deg. So you should be able to do some rough calculations on the safe spot to place your hitting mat. As for club impact prevention, you can test out with your driver. Hope this helps.

This is exactly why I went with a BenQ projector. I really liked th specs of the 1080 and the 1090 really looks amazing but hitting from 9-10 feet back and a projector mounted at 6 feet sounded like non-starter for me. The find a projector page on Projector Central works great especially when you have a specific mounting location in mind. Fo me, I needed something around 0.8 throw ratio to make it work.
