  • Optoma HD29HST and solution for unusual screen shape

I've just refitted my garage and the main use will be for the golf simulator. To justify the expense, I wanted to make it multi use so will want to use it for gaming and films for the kids too. The Optoma seems ideal, its 4000 lumens, 50000:1 contrast and 8ms input lag. The throw ratio is 0.5:1. Does anyone have any experience with this projector, its available in the UK for under £800?

Due to the shape of my screen, see pic, I can project 16:9 380cm by 214cm or 4:3 320cm by 240cm. If I went for a 16:10 projector I could get 352 by 220cm, anyone know of one with low lag for gaming? There is a large area above the image to catch higher shots and I'll be making a surround. My ceiling is 3.2m at its highest and 2.1 lowest.

I'm hitting from 9ft/ 2.75m away and with 16:9 the Optoma would be 6ft/ 1.9m from the screen. I've tested my swing and that would be clear. I can't go longer than 1.3:1 throw ratio due to depth of room. I've searched a lot of projectors and at the sub £1000 price range there's always one variable falling short. I'm going round in circles and need to make a decision.

I've also seen ideas on here for a sliding rail to switch between 16:9 and 4.3, although if 7ft is high enough from the floor I would probably stick with 16:9.

Sorry for the long post, hoping for some help please.

Did you go with the Optoma in the end?

Yes, really pleased with it, great value. Only used it on 16:9, no need to adjust it. Golf looks amazing and my sons love gaming on it too. All round win!
