Optoma hd28 and SkyTrak issue

Just got in the HD28 projector. Unplugged my hdmi cable from my TV (coming out of my gaming laptop) and plugged it into the hdmi port of the projector. Once I did that the SkyTrak started blinking (the laser) and it would only register 1 or 2 of 10 shots.

anyone seen this before?
