Is 4k projecting beneficial for a 4:3 aspect ratio wall?

I have a small square wall that will fit a 90” wide screen for my planned golf room. I will get 15-20% more square inches of viewing if I have my soon to be purchased SkyTrak is set to a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the shorter 16:9 aspect ratio for the same 90” width. I have heard that a 1080 resolution projector loses resolution when set to a 4:3 aspect ratio. Will it make a tangible viewing quality difference to get a 4k projector (Viewsonic LS400-4k) so that when it degrades in 4:3 mode, it will still look like at least ~1080 quality?

My guess is that these simulators will keep getting more and more stunning graphics and I’d like to benefit from them and SkyTrak is already 4k capable. I’m willing to spend an extra $1,500 if I get tangibly better viewing. Thoughts?

I'm guessing the answer is this: 4k is 3840 pixels wide by 2160 high (16:9). Generally projectors accomplish different aspect ratio's by blacking out the un needed area. So your 4k projector would be projecting the image at 2880x2160. You'll accomplish the same pixel density as the same height 4k screen, just at less width. Does that make sense?

Although, I have not made a custom resolution with 2160p yet.
