  • Audit me on this real quick...

About to pull the trigger on a pretty expensive projector, a BenQ LK953ST (native 4K, 5,000 lumen laser projector) which should be a massive upgrade over my Optoma GT1080. Based on the projector calculations the unit will be mounted in the center of the screen, probably 6 inches to a foot behind where the ball would lie, at a mounted height of about 8.5-9 feet depending on how much lens shift I can get away with and not lose image size due to the angle of the projected image into my enclosure.

My only concern, and I’m 99% it isn’t a concern at all, is this- if the projector ends up a foot behind a ball, that is such a minimal amount that there is no chance of shadowing from the golfer, right?

I would say zero chance. Especially since its in line with the ball and not your body. You'll be fine.

Mine is mounted 7 feet behind me on 9 foot ceilings and I do not shadow at all. you will be fine as long as no one hits with club posing or doing a funky swing.

Slightly off topic but seeing where you have yours mounted, plus you have an EYEXO, are there issues with the projector projecting light through the EYEXO view area? As I look to build a room, and am now leaning EYEXO, that was my concern. I couldn't imagine needing a shortthrow on the screen side of the EYEXO as I would expect that to be 4.5 feet or so from screen.

No issues at all. Does not affect readings. My projector is mounted really close to ceiling, maybe 3 to 4 inches below ceiling and EYEXO is not in the way. I went with the epson 5050, has lens shift and zoom features that are great. Lumens are lower than the BenQ your looking at but i cant imagine my image being any brighter, I think I would start losing color. Uses pixel shift for 4k. Contrast is great too. I had a short throw projector and I was not a fan but that is just my personal opinion. EYE XO is a awesome machine and you will not be disappointed.
