Not Much Love for Floor Mounting?

Put the Carl’s DIY enclosure together today and played around with the projector. LOTS to learn. Anyway, I’m a lefty, everyone else isn’t and I only have12’ of width to work with. Was reading posts that it’s pretty universal ceiling mounts are the way to go. Not much about floor mounts and was just wondering what’s up. Seems like that’d be the easiest way to go. Already had the fiberbuilt mat and was thinking of just butting another mat against it and mounting overhead. Just a little nervous about it and was thinking a floor mount would be much less risky. Just build a little cover and call it a day.

Hey Mitch and Jose! God I wish, as I’m sure Mitch does, we had that much width Jose. Looks like you have the same DIY enclosure from Carl’s only a lot wider???

I’ll measure again but believe I have 11’ in width as well Mitch. I bought a 12 x 20 shed but the contractor who did the interior work said that’s an outside measurement. However the interior length is 20’ so... As I was going through the projector manual (Optoma GT1080 Darbee) it says emphatically to only operate the projector on a table or ceiling mount. Does your manuals say that as well? It says the lamp life will be greatly diminished or the projector could be damaged. I’m willing to forgo the life of the lamp but obviously not the projector. Obviously Optoma has to CYA so I don’t know how much of a concern that really is.

Mitch, I’m guess everyone using your sim is right handed??? Yes, I’ll be using it 99% of the time but anyone else using it is right handed so I can’t do the offset like that. I haven’t told the wife yet but I’m taking the projector to the shore and will use the side of the garage to simulate my screen play with all the settings until we can get back home next Saturday.

Yeah...I know. I think the projector will be close to the limit at 10 1/2-11'. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until next weekend to find out. Amazon would deliver the mount tomorrow but I wouldn't have time to install and tweak it. This really sucks but I've got to go. Hum...you mentioning that, I may take the projector and play with it some from different distances. I still don't have all the remote buttons and menus down pat yet.

10 feet is way too far back for that projector and screen size. At 10 feet back it will cast an image that's 15 feet wide and 11 feet tall.

Here's my setup. You will definitely need a cover to avoid the projector being damaged.

Hey Jose...did you buy the projector cover or DIY? After playing around with the projector looks like I’ll either have to buy another projector or do your floor mount. Not 100% but close. I’ll have to wait until we get home Saturday to make sure.

I see there’s an eBay cover for $100! Fans on Amazon for $14.

I have the GT1080 HDR and floor or ceiling mount means it must be mounted horizontal. If not mounted horizontally it can damage projector. Floor mount is horizontal.

Unfortunately my GT1080 Darbee manual says TABLE or ceiling not floor Physed. I don't see the big deal.I still have some tweaking to do because the image is about a foot...maybe 10" above the bottom of the screen. Up to this point I'd have to put something under the back to tilt it down about 2" BUT I still have some tinkering to do I think

Just ordered an all metal powder coated cover for a floor mount off eBay for $100. Looks quality. I’ll cover with 1 tile carpet used to cover the floor. I found someone posted a link some time ago to Amazon for little fans that sit on the side of electronics for ~$15 that plug in to the projector’s USB. I’ll see how hot it gets first. The other choice was sell this one and buy something else. Having something on the floor in front doesn’t bother me the least. I get way too focused for that. Besides both left and right will hit slightly off center, with the projector centered. e6 has an offset setting Gung-ho or someone posted on YouTube that I’ll use.

Was looking at the pics I’d posted from e6 when I first got the screen filled at 7.5’. Maybe it was just a poor quality pic. If not the scenery looked cartoonish. I’m guessing that moving the projector to 5’11” as 3putt’s link to projector central calculates, the resolution should be higher when the screen is filled.
