Which Projector

Hi there. My golf sim room has started to take shape finally. I’m using a GC Quad with FSX.

My ceiling height is quite low at 8ft 7” which isn’t ideal but there isn’t much I can do about it.

I’m looking for a projector but don’t want to mount on the ceiling because of the low ceiling height so I’ve been looking at a couple of other options and was wondering if anyone else had the same problems and what they decided to do.

1. floor mount it - slightly worried about hitting it with an errant shot.
2. Sit it on a table at the side and project onto the screen (this would be my preference but not sure how easy it is to set up.

I stand about 6-7ft away from the screen.

If the projector is mounted directly over the ball, you won't hit it. I would consider that as your first option. The only thing is that it might just be visually annoying because it would be so low.

There are projectors that you can mount off to the side and use a feature to square up the image. Could maybe mount one on that wall next to the monitor. I don't know much about doing this as I've never done it, only know that it's a thing.

You could likely mount one directly in line with the ball but back behind you (in the opposite direction of the screen). That would keep it out of the way of your screen and also might be less in the way visually.

What is your screen size? And is your hitting position centered to the screen?

I don’t want to mount it on the ceiling because I’m in two mins wether I will move the sim eventually to a purpose built room outside so don’t want to cause too much same to the ceiling in this room.
having one either mounted on the wall or sat on a table would be my preferred option for now.
My hitting area is centred of the impact screen but it doesn’t look like it on the photo.
hitting screen is 2.5m x 2.5.

Mounting one on a table might work but the concern would be that it would cast your shadow onto the screen. If this may be a temporary setup as you say and you don't want to mess with the ceiling, I would say just floor mount one in front of your hitting mat.

Check out something with a throw ratio of about 0.50 like the Optoma GT1080 Darbee. You can mount that 5.5 feet from the projector and cast an image 98 inches wide by 74 inches tall, which would fill your screen from left to right.

For the first time tonight, I hit the ceiling with my 7iron. I’m 5ft 7 so that isn’t great. I need to start looking at another room, maybe in the garden.
Thanks for the advice and recommendations - The projector that you’ve suggested seems to have been discontinued in most places online, is there a newer version of this?

Check out the Optoma GT1080HDR. Can set that thing on the floor just 4 feet from the screen and fill your screen.
