  • Projector question for simulator build

I try to decide between the Optoma GT1080 HDR and Benq TH671ST. My Carl screen is a 10’x10’ and I can install the projector anywhere from 6’ to 14’

I have 2 questions, I would really appreciate your feedback:

    1. Can you get a 1x1 image(10’x10’) or you need to go for 3x4(10’x7’6”) ? Is this dependent on the computer display setup ?

    2. Do you lose some brightness, image quality if you go with longer distance from the screen ? Optoma looks like a better choice for this.

This is what I get from projectorcentral:

    Benq TH671ST
    10’-1” 10’x7’6” (4:3) 79 nits
    13’-5” 10’x10’ (1x1) 44 nits

    Optoma GT1080 HDR
    6’-8” 10’x7’6”(4x3) 211 nits
    8’-10” 10’x10’ (1x1) 118 nits

    Thanks a lot !!!

    1) Yes, it is determined by the computer display settings. I have never seen a computer setting to drive a 1 x 1 image, but maybe somebody has figured out how to do it. I go with 4:3 when golfing to fill the entire screen, but can slide my ceiling mounted projector forward to maximize the width of a 16:9 image when watching movies.

    2) My projector (Epson Home Cinema 1060) is rated at 3,100 lumens (but I have read that sometimes these specifications may not mean much). It is located 16'6" from the screen when I am golfing and the image is very bright. But then again, I can get my room very dark.

Thanks ! I think I need to go with 4x3 and fill the top/bottom of the screen with some black fabric
