  • Projector Help Needed

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on a projector for my new sim build. Nothing has been purchased or installed as of now, so I can make adjustments as necessary. I've been on projector central a bunch of times but just get overwhelmed with all the options and haven't managed to narrow down the choices.

    Details are as follows.

    Room Dimensions: 177"W x 114"H x 240"D
    Screen Size: 168"W x 105"H (16:10 aspect ratio).
Hitting area from screen: 8.5ft to 10ft (assuming Uneekor QED hitting zone of 18"x18")

Would like to keep projector behind or above hitting area without interfering with the QED launch monitor and without creating shadows.

I have a media box in the ceiling approximately 19ft from the screen to plug in the projector and thinking about placing it near that.

    Questions:
Could I do a 16:9 projector? Seems like there are a lot more options of those than 16:10, but I would lose some image size.

If mounting close to the media box in the back, will I be able to avoid casting shadows? If not, where can I mount to avoid casting shadows and still keep it behind hitting area?

Might also need something with horizontal shift or keystone adjustment as I may need to setup the projector slightly off center.

What other features should I look for?

    Budgeting 1,000-2,000.

Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you have a projector that is 19’ from the screen you will have a shadow.

16:9 will be good for you. Your image is going to be a little under 9’ tall so you get a little more width from a 16:9. I would try and get the projector 8-10 feet from the screen (same as your hitting area).

What he said. If you can get your hitting spot pretty close to centered than you should be able to put the projector right over the ball. You may need to shift or keystone the image slightly but right over the ball is the ideal spot for the projector. I know that overhead launch monitor units make things a little trickier for projector placement but I can't speak much on that aspect of it. But 19 feet away and only 9 feet high will be a shadow.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check that one out. Had you used it for a simulator setup?

That is quite a discount from new. Someone should scoop that up if it fits their setup
