  • Projector Central Question - Vertical Offset above or below

    Hello,

Have purchased this projector for my 16 x 10 screen which is 158" width by 98" height so 185" diagonal.

Looking at this nice diagram from them it also includes a Vertical Offset of "-5" (minus).

Does this mean the centre of my lens should be 5 inches above or below the top of the screen if ceiling mounted?

I planned for above.... but figured I'd better make sure before I put up projector mount.

    Thanks for the help!

Mounted on the ceiling, the top of the image would begin 5 inches below the middle of the lens. If mounted on the floor, the bottom of the image would start 5 inches above the middle of the lens.

You are correct in that 158 x 120 results in a 16:10 aspect ratio. However, if your screen is 16 feet by 10 feet, then it's 192 inches by 120 inches. So you are leaving a ton of blank space on your screen that could otherwise be filled. Why not just back up the projector a couple feet and fill the whole thing?

Also, that's a lower resolution projector. If that was on purpose for budget reasons, no problem. But just wanted to make sure you were aware.

Edit: Never mind. After reading your post again, I think you mean that the size of your screen is 158x120. I thought you meant your screen size was 16 feet by 10 feet.

Seems I misunderstood the specs on site... noticeable difference you think, I imagine it could serve purposes for a year or two then upgrade? Bought a good CPU/graphics card, recommended level TGC 2019.

Yes, it is a noticeable difference, hence the big difference in price points between resolutions. 1080p refers to resolutions with 1080 vertical pixels, which would be 1920x1200 for a 16:10 ratio (or 1680x1050 coming in very close). You can be easily forgiven for the error because everything having to do with projectors can be very confusing. It can absolutely suffice for the time being. Just keep your eyes out for any good deals on a full HD projector in the meantime because it will be worth the upgrade.

Ah yes WXGA - That sounds familiar. It is incredibly confusing. I had to return one from Best Buy that I had screwed up the throw distance calculation... got a good deal on EBay for this.

Above the top of the screen, there is lots of play so it doesn’t need to be bang on 5”. Also distance is from front of the lens.
edit: got my ups and downs backward.
