I've searched a bunch and haven't quite found the best answer to my question yet so would appreciate thoughts from others.
For background, my setup (to be) is a basement sim:
Ceiling height: 8 feet, 8 inches -- I have swung a driver many times without hitting the ceiling (but it is very close!).
Enclosure Screen: 4:3 ratio, 10.5 feet wide, 8 feet high -- 151" diagonal (DIY enclosure from Carl's Place - www.carlofet.com -- ordered, should be arriving soon)
Launch monitor: Mevo+ (ordered but not yet arrived) -- will output from ipad via HDMI to projector (I do not have a computer for this setup, just an ipad air)
I have not purchased a projector yet and here are some questions:
1. With limited ceiling height, is a ceiling mount possible?
My plan was to ceiling mount it at around 6-8' from the screen (short throw) based on the projector but am concerned about the vertical offset as I suspect that after mounting the lens will be 6-8 inches from the ceiling with a flush mount and therefore at the same height as the top of the screen. Some projectors have a vertical offset as much as 10" for this size screen. Can I tilt projector up on a ceiling mount? Or get a projector with a vertical shift? -- OR, given height restriction, should I just floor mount it -- I don't particularly like the floor mount box right in front of the ball path as it is raised several inches above the mat, but have seen some right next to the mat using a horizontal shift.
2. Obviously my screen aspect ratio is 4:3 mainly due to space limitations - if I wanted to use 4:3 for golf sim and 16:9 for either movies or gaming (nintendo switch) is there an easy way to do this? My initial thought was to have widescreen black bars on top/bottom and it would be easy -- but I gather not so easy. From reading on this forum and elsewhere, it appears that the projector has to be at different distances for this to occur and possibly need to switch the config of the projector from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio-- meaning one would have to slide it forward/adjust for a 16:9 output. Are there any projectors that can do this without having to move the physical location of the projector/alter aspect ratio -- i.e. with zoom, input 1 vs. input 2 assignment of aspect ratio? I'm sure I'm not the first person to want it for dual purpose but others have either suggested a second projector given these issues, but that isn't something I can consider for now.
Thanks for the thoughts. I'll be sure to post some before/after pics to hopefully help anyone out with a similar setup.
