  • Help me choose a projector

Let me start by saying I have searched and searched....
i am up in Canada and was thinking I would find a BenQ th671st for a reasonable price, but it seems it's sold out in a lot of places and price jacked up on Amazon. I was also looking at the Optoma Gt1080 and it's still an option as it's not sold out.

I guess here's what I'm thinking. I plan onnmojnting a 12x9 screen to a sportscreen. My ceiling is just over 10 feet.

Just looking for a cost effective projector that will do the job. I see lots of guys buying refurbed units off eBay, but older BenQ with only 1 HDMI input, but not sure if that's a good option or not.

Any help keeping me between the mustard and the mayo would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Where are you located? Memory Express has a few left depending on location. You could try and contact the location and see if they will ship at your cost. They also have them on sale at the moment (likely why they are low in stock). Their price is $830.

B&H is reputable. $700 right now.

I have a similar setup with the TH671 St with a 12.5 x 9.5 screen. I also have 10 ft ceiling like you. If fits nicely at 1600x1200 resolution, which is a really good setting for 4:3 because the pixel density is higher than 1080p.

The optical zoom is also very nice for setup and fitting the screen. Also the offset is much smaller with the 671ST than for comparable Optoma's.

For my setup I mounted with a cheap 6 inch mount from amazon and did not have to adjust the vertical keystone at all. I figure your setup will be similar to this since we have roughly the same swing area and room dimensions.

B&H is US I believe and the OP noted he is in Canada. I think the B&H price you quoted is in USD.

Price aside, B&H is a well known cross-border shipper with a great reputation in this regard - worth keeping on the list while taking into account the exchange rate.

Dmoe - are you doing an enclosure around your screen? Be aware that if you go short throw that can cause issues depending on how high your projector needs to be above the top of the image. Sometimes the enclosure can get in the way.

I was also looking at a more budget friendly BenQ. The MW632ST. I can find them locally and from what I've read, people have enjoyed them.

Foreman33 I plan to use a sport screen and SQ raw once par2pro has more stock. As for the enclosure, I will likely do curtains on the sides and across the top for high shots. It will be adjustable, so hopefully won't affect the projector

Dmoe - Where in Canada are you located? I happen to have a MW632ST which is about to hit Kajiji. Less than 100 hours of total use as I upgraded to a laser version. Jason

Just picked up one of the last ones from Memory Express in Calgary last night and it's going to work perfectly. I like that it's 1080p vs saving a couple hundred dollars and only getting XVGA
