  • Another Projector Question - 9x9 square screen - 9W x9H x 10L swing bay

I am sorry to post another projector question. I am just overwhelmed with too much information reading all the threads. Please help me to pick a projector or at least narrow it down to 2. Here are the criteria:

    1) Under $1,000
    2) Square Screen 9x9
    3) Swing Bay Size: 9W x9H x 10L
    4) Projector can be mount at 9'±0.5', 9.5' is maximum ceiling height
    5) I have Skytrak and Desktop, I will have a 50" monitor on the side

Will a Optoma GT1080HDR Short Throw Gaming Projector works for me? I want to mount it directly over my head at 9' to 10' from the screen. Will I be able to use the full 9x9 screen or I have to use 9x6.75 (leaving a 2.25 dark band on top of the screen) for a 4:3 ratio?

After more research, I think I will buy the BenQ TH671ST 1080p projector for my 9'x9' screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The projector will be about 2 to 3 feet to my right mounted to about 9 ft high, hopefully there will be no shadow.

The BenQ seems like the better choice. The Optoma 1080 would need to be mounted higher than your ceiling allows and your enclosure would block part of the projection. I'm sure you already are, but just make sure you use projectorcentral.com or the benq website to find throw distrance and mounting height..

Thank you for your response. If I chose 8'10" x 8'10" (106" x 106") image size, I understand that the mounting distance is 11'10". However, I don't understand 106" -3" projector height. Does this mean the projector is at 109" or 103"? And what is the 150" number?

-3" means you mount it 3 inches higher than the top of the screen (so 109"). This is why the optoma is unlikely to work for you. I bet it would be -16" or something.

150" is the diagonal distance of your screen.

I've never done keystone adjustments, but I think you can mount it lower than 109", tilt it up a bit, and use a keystone adjustment. I think you can do that but you should check someone else because I'm no expert.
