Projector Aspect ratios.....help me pick a screen size

So i am building my sim in my garage. I just received my BenQ TH671ST last night. Now i need to chose an impact screen size. I shortened my sportscreen, and installed it and the current size is 12'8"W X 10'H. I am torn on what size screen to buy as we will likely use the screen for watching movies and sports. I plan on mounting a unistrut rail to be able to slide the projector forward and backward to accommodate :

    - I could do 12 x 9 and run 4:3
    - I could do 12'8" x 7.7 and run 16:9
    - i could run 12 x 8 and run 16:10

I just have no clue if its best to have the biggest screen possible (12x9) and run 4:3, or sacrifice a bit of screen size (12'8' x 7.7) and run 16:9......

No right or wrong answer, just personal preference. Try both and see what you like best.

After a lot of back and forth I ultimately settled on 4:3 as it offers a large image that is high in quality. You sacrifice a small amount of picture quality in 4:3 but it's still very very good and I think the gain in image size offsets the small reduction in quality that is hardly noticeable anyway.

You can customize a resolution in your graphics card and fill your screen entirely. You'll lose even more image quality but again it doesn't hurt to try it out and see if you like it.

For movies you may want to consider 16:9 though since 7.7 feet tall is still plenty big for a movie.
