  • Help with Projector choice

    Hi ,

am a new member , building. NEW GOLF SIM .

My cabin is 6mts x4 mts and 3mts high

Max screen size is 370 cm x 270 cm ...ideal for 16:10 or 4:3

I would like to watch sport and occasionally

Movies . Going down the 4K route , I would loose image height to about 208 cm . My hitting area is 320 ( about 10 feet) cm from the screen .

My computer is 4K output with high end graphics card

    My questions are

    1. Should I go down the 16.9 route and get a 4K projector or should I get a 16.10 native laser projector like with Panasonic 5000 lumen one ?

    2. Would I really see a big upgrade in image using TrackMan virtual 2 software if I went down the 4K route ?

    3. Would a image size of 370 x 208 be an immersive experience with 4K or should I compromise on the resolution and get a 1920 x 1200 projector for a 16.10 image ?

    Any help is much appreciated

    Thanks in anticipation

These are always the toughest questions to answer. I think if you look at some other threads you may get some info on the various projectors. I do know that @Leomode has a 4K projector in his set up and believe he commented that things look more crisp with it. However, at the moment that the max resolution that VG2 is currently programmed for is not 4K.

I did post some comparison pics on this forum a couple of months ago and included some pics of a pixel shifting 4K projector as compared to some other projectors that you could look at and I did feel that the picture quality was better with the 4K one.

if you go the 1920x1200 route, you should note that the screen will be cropped a little and you will not get the full immersion that the extra height allows for with this format of a projector. However, there is a fix to this and you would need to reach out to TM support and get them to add a file to your computer that can be used to make a custom resolution that will work for this type of projector. I have done this and like it a lot.

In addition to the Panasonic, there is also an Eiki projector at around the same price that others have used and are happy with. I have not compared this one with the Panasonic, but perhaps run the projector central calculator to see which one better fits your room as they are both very good projectors.

on the 4K front, I think you will find that if you don’t go this route today, the. You will always have in your mind that you will be upgrading at some point in the future (likely when VG2 adds 4K). Thus, maybe getting the projector today and future proofing is always a good option.

hope this helps! Also, you should get yourself added to the Discord TM Channel. If you PM me your email, I can see if I can get you a link. This is where all of the online tournaments are discussed etc and where you can get yourself added onto those.
