  • Horizontal lens shift

    Hi

I'm building a sim 5m long x 3.5m wide x 3m high, given the tight space id like to put the projector to the side so its out of the way. Are there any reasonably priced good projectors that have horizontal lens shift. Probably looking at 1m from centre. Budget around £1500ish. I've considered centre short throw but concerned it will be tight with swing and miss hits.

Not sure of the UK price, but the Eiki 308u I believe had a lens shift feature and is well rated by users on this site. There is also a Panasonic 580 (can’t recall the model name exactly, but if you search for Panasonic on this forum I am sure you will find it) I believe that has also been well rated. The biggest issue however will be shadows and whether or not they can fill your image size given your room dimensions. I think they may just fit, but then you may have shadows to contend with.

Sorry I forgot to mention that shifting by a meter is pretty far and I am not sure if either of these projectors will handle that much lens shift at the distance you need. Might need a combination with Keystone.

Thank you. The Eiki 308u only has vertical lens shift with horizontal keystone. Yes thats my concern on shadows so trying to find one that I ca put to the side and has the right long throw ratio where it doesn't need to go behind me. Perhaps I am asking too much!

Just wanted to update this to note that the 308u has both horizontal and vertical lens shift. The horizontal shift is not huge, but both the lens shift on the 308u is there.

Another option is to position the projector over the ball and angle it to the left a little until it fits on your screen (I'm assuming you're a right handed player who will need to hit offset to the right side). Then you use a little keystone to square it up. The projector will be safe over the ball.

You could also consider doing a floor mount since you will be offset anyway so it won't be in your way.

Good ideas - the floor mount is not really an option as I intend to use it as a garage when not in use. I am using a stealth screen so its adaptable. But you're right, over the ball position might be ok.

probably doesnt need to be as much as a meter but maybe 50cm

Panasonic PT-VZ 580 is the other and I am pretty sure this one has the horizontal lens shift capability and should be around US$1500 I believe.

I looked into the VZ580 project and it does not have horizontal lens shift. Only vertical lens shift.
