  • Could use some help with projector placement

    Hi,
Building out my sim in my garage and am not certain how a Carl’s enclosure might impact projection.

I have the 8.5 x 10.5 screen with an enclosure that is 5’ deep. My ceiling is 10’3” high. Will be hitting 9 or 10 feet from the screen.

I was considering the Optoma EH412ST, but with a throw distance of 6’9” and vertical offset of 14” will the top of the image be cut off by the enclosure?

If I went with the BenQ TH671ST, looks like I can mount 10’1” from screen but it will hang down much lower (3 inches above screen height?)?

I’m 6’4” and don’t want to get too close to the projector. I just don’t know the math to figure out the best option.

    Thx for the insights.

Decided to go with the BenQ based on what sounds like more flexibility to get the image to fit the screen (vs.Optoma). Getting ready to mount the projector and have all the figures from the Projector Calculator.

There isn't a stud close the area where I need to mount the projector to be in the center of the screen and the appropriate distance from the screen. How have others done a ceiling mount when the closest stud will put you off center and not at the correct distance?

Could you add a board that can screws into the joists and then screw your mount into the board at the appropriate place?

Could do that or pick up some heavy duty dry wall anchors. I've seen them rated for up to 100lbs.

I think those ratings are when you mount on wall and not a ceiling. I think for a projector you want to make sure you are mounting it to something solid.

I'm building my simulator in a garage and live where it gets very hot in the summer, so I need to add insulation above the garage. I'm cutting an access hole for the insulation so I'll just hop into the attic and nail a 2x6 between the joists where the projector will hang, then I can screw into that. I thought about doing what Dax suggested but this way I don't have to have the board visible on the ceiling.
