  • I am so confused!!!! Projectors 😫😫

Hi - set up is likely to be a Uneekor QED with a 3.8m x 3m
impact screen. I am so so confused on projectors and aspect ratio’s. Clearly I want to fit all of the screen as best I can but I also want to be able to watch Sky Q (sports and movies through a cable type box) and possibly even the odd Xbox game for a laugh. But mainly the golf software through a PC and TV through a set top box.
now....4:3 would be the closest match but the sky box I think operates at 16:9. And is 4:3 going to be a much poorer picture? Clearly 16:9 won’t work and 16:10 projectors are rare and look for my PC commercial use rather than cinema etc.
    my mind is blown!!
    send help.

I would worry less about the projector. First, you don't *have* to fill the entire screen. A 16x9 projector will work just fine. If the borders bother you, you have a few options:

    (1) you can trim it out to make it look nicer.
    (2) you can set your projector resolution to 4:3 and fill the entire impact screen
    (3) you can buy a 4k projector, set 4:3 resolution, and still have a great picture

All of the above are good options, but can also be done with a 16:10 projector. A lot of projectors let you choose a 4:3 ratio even though their native resolution might be different.

what size is your room and what is your budget? There are very lengthy discussions this past month on projectors and the 4:3 topic is included in those discussions as well as projector recommendations.

My budget is around Β£2500. I had actually been recommended a 16:10 projector. This one to be exact https://www.projectorpoint.co.uk/pan...t-vmz60ej.html
Would that be a decent option and would that be good to watch movies through too?

And sorry room size is around 4m wide and 7m in depth. 3m high.

I am not familiar with that projector, but Panasonic does have some great options out there and this one is laser as well which is a big plus. I am not sure on movies though as it will really depend in what format you will be watching the movies as you are going to be getting black bars in any case if your screen ratio will be 4:3. Also, watching movies on your projection screen will not be as good as a regular screen in any event. I do know that the place where I go to lessons is using a laser Panasonic that looks great in a bright room, but I am not sure of what its model number is.

In terms of your budget, you could likely find something for less than this one that will be just as good (maybe just not laser, but with the same brightness or close, and still having lens shift capability).

Also, with your ceiling height and depending on how far back you will be hitting my worry would be that you may cast a shadow given that this projector will need to sit back about 15 or 16 feet back from the front of the screen (not sure if your lens shift will compensate enough).

If you do a search for a guy here named 3on3putt (I believe is his name) and look at some of his postings re using 16:10 and 16:9 with a 4;3 image. He also has some good projector alternatives that might sit a little closer than what you are getting at the moment.
