  • OPTOMA GT1080HDR with 9ft Ceilings

Anyone else using an Optoma gt1080hdr with 9ft or similar ceiling? It seems as though, according to the projector calculator the projector needs to be anywhere from 12" to 16" above the screen depending on size. It seems this would make for a very short enclosure. Anyone have experience in a similar situation?

    Thanks!

You are correct. Optomas tend to have high vertical offsets (which is a good thing if you have high ceilings).

For low ceilings, check out the BenQ 671ST. The throw distance is a little longer but the vertical offset is near zero.

The Optoma can be fine if you don't plan to fill your entire screen or have a lower screen height.

I am using the Optima GT1080HDR with ceiling height of 9’4”. Works fine. My screen size is 14 x 8ish. The projector is tilted up just slightly but I am happy with it. I would like a better 4 corner focus out of it but for its price its a good projector.

I forgot to mention that I made my own bracket to get the projector as tight to the ceiling as possible. Click image for larger version

how much space is between the 1080 and the EyeXO? Ive ordered the same setup, and will be installing it once we move to our new place.

I have that projector. If you make your own enclosure you simply get to retain full turf to ceiling height rather than being stuck with an as built unit. I have 13' wide screen with 88" image height, with 9'3" remaining turf to ceiling. 16:9. No use of any correction.
