For the projector experts- is the brightness of a projector affected by the throw? For example would a 3000lm short throw projector that is only 8ft from the screen be brighter than a 3000lm standard projector that is mounted ~18ft away? Does a short throw offer more brightness compared to a standard projector or equivalent lumen rating? Thx

Distance will have an affect sure but the real aspect to control is ambient lighting. How bright the room is and very importantly where the light source is (i.e. shining towards the screen) will have much more impact that distance. All kind of folks here have 3K lumen projectors which give excellent pictures but they are able to (or choose to) have a dark environments with controlled spot lights focused on the hitting area and specifically blocked from shing towards the screen. In my application I have some ambient and went with higher lumens - works well but again YMMV.
Projector central Projectors, Projector Reviews, LCD Projectors, Home Theater DLP Projectors at ProjectorCentral.com, and others have excellent guides and tutorials if you poke around the sites as do many of the manufacturers How many lumens does a projector need? Lastly though, for a golf sim you really need to understand where the placement of the projector will be wrt where you are standing. This is the reason almost all here ultimately go with a short throw projector mounted between 6 and 10 feet back from the screen depending on specific circumstances. Something 18 feet back (i.e. a Home theatre projector) will be tough to position without shadowing impacting your image.
Hope that helps.
