  • Low ceiling 8’5” projector choice.

So I am just finished building out my room and The step is picking up a projector. Tentatively I have purchased the optima 1090. However after speaking with Optima they tell me my 101 inch ceilings will not be enough to use their product as it need to be 13” above the top of the image. I see many guys here have done projectors from the ceiling with 8’6” or lower ceilings so I wanted to ask how you guys did it? My screen will be a Carl’s 4:3, 7.7 x 10 which puts the top of the image about 93 inches from the floor. Is floor mount a better way to go or
do I need a different brand of projector with different throw specs? I’m told the optima has a lot of adjustments but I don’t want to completely compromise image quality with a bunch of manual adjustments.

What about a floor-mount projector in front of the hitting area?

Edit: never mind, missed that you already mentioned it in the initial read.

Optoma has a very large vertical offset, others like Benq have less and might be what's used by them. I have the optoma, but i have the ceiling height so the vertical offset is no issue.

If you are committed to the 1090, I have seen some mount the projector titled upwards to get the picture in the right spot. You would then need to use keystone correction to correct the picture, which will to a degree reduce the quality of the image. If you are open to other projectors then I might suggest inputting your dimensions and mounting distance into the Projector Central "Find a Projector" utility. Great site. Yeah I have the 1080 and it’s tilted upward and looks great

So you just hang it normal height and tilt upward? Do you need a particular mount?

I don’t have a preference for projector, would you know what benq most closely resembles the 1090 that would have as much vertical offset ? I went with a 1090 only because it was reviewed very highly for golf simulator use.

So optima has a throw ratio of .5 if I’m understanding this projector situation with low ceilings I assume I would want a greater throw distance, is that correct?

Throw distance determines how far back from the screen you need to mount the projector. The 1090 will be closer to the screen then most of the BenQ short throw projectors. There is a separate requirement for mounting height wrt the top of your screen and they are projector specific. Almost all are different.

But again, I would direct you to Projector Central. There are many tutorials and utilities which will answer these kinds of questions and help you find the right solution for your specific dimensions.

Thanks I tried but I didn’t see a way to put in room dimensions and ceiling height.
