  • Benq TK700sti question

    Hi Guys,

Planning a 14*8 screen and DIY enclosure. So, the 700sti will have to be almost 14 feet from the screen. How close can I hit from to avoid a shadow? I'm 5'8".

How far above the screen do you mount the projector?

I decided to go to projector central for ya... based on these assumptions you're ball position should be 96" from the screen

      - Projector will sit 9" above the top of the image
      - 105" above floor to mount projector (96" image + 9" offset)
      - 151" from the screen with max zoom (1.2x)
      - 68" height (ignoring hunch while at address)

      (68/105*151=97")

If you haven't already ordered a projector yet I would suggest you look at the UHD35STx, it is nearly identical in price but will mount much closer, more lumens, 4k, etc. Just a thought. If you already ordered it then you will want to make sure to get that zoomed in as much as possible

Thanks so much. I had also seen the distances at that website.

Didn't get what you meant by. I get what you meant but could not wrap my head around your formula for it

        (68/105*151=97")

I have had recommendations for the new optoma too, but it's not available in EU, where I will be buying it, and the one shop that has it has it at 400 euro more than what I am getting the Benq 700sti for.

Also, does zooming it affect the image quality?

That’s too bad on pricing for the new Optoma. As for the math portion we do things in inches over here so that adds to the confusion.

68” divided by 105” gets the ratio of your height to the projector height. Then you take that ratio times the distance from screen to projector to get the ball position.

          68” / 105” = .647
          .647 * 151” = 97.8”
          thus I said 96” because well that’s 8 feet

Thanks again. Unless I get the Optoma new 4k at a decent price in Europe, I'll go with the tk700sti.

Don't blame you, the price is the same for the two over here but if it were $400 different I would surely think long and hard. The biggest reason I went with the UHD35STx is because I can mount it 8 feet away instead of 14', plus an extra 600 lumens. So I anticipate the image being quite a bit brighter. I could be wrong though. If you have any more questions just reach out.

I placed a comment that would be relevant here in the thread located https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...rojector-mount

Thanks for the 35stx suggestion. Getting it in December. Did you get yours? How's the image quality?

I did get mine but the sim isn’t done so I have only put the image in the wall to confirm it worked. The image was very good in that trial.

Stetson, also looking into this projector for my setup. Did you look into any of the reviews from the Reddit projector forum? These specs seem amazing for the price, but lots of people there are strongly advising against it based on QA issues with the UHD models. I am a little hesitant now but curious how your experience has been with it

At this point I have no real opinion as this weekend will be installing insulation. It comes with a warranty, it works out of the box and by the time the bulb starts to fade 4k laser projectors will be cheap. So I am not too worried but will report back accordingly with time.

I’m also considering this projector, did you go ahead with it?

I’m building the sim now with the following Due to space, viewable screen size is 96”H 107”w

Garage is low light unless I have the other door open.

I have plenty of room from the screen. I can hit from 9-13’ comfortably. I’m using a mevo plus and a I pad pro latest generation.

              floor mounted
I don’t want the projector front and center, I can have it close to screen or next to hitting area to the left of the mat as I’m right handed.

I want the projector to go where the red dot is in photo, can it be that far off center? About 3’

Projectors I was considering or recommended.

BenQ TK700STi which is on sale for 1,499
Panasonic PT-VZ580U wigs is around 1400
Optoma ZH406STx which is around 2k
