    Projector Choice

    Hi Everyone,

Looking at various option for my home simulator. My screen measures 91 inches in height, 121 inches wide and 151 inches diagonally. Plan to hit approximately 10-11 feet from the impact screen with the projector about 4-5 feet behind me (14-16 feet from the impact screen). Will be using the Mevo Plus and hoping to double the area as a theater.

I have looked at a few projectors, and wonder if people had any recommendations or comments for my space between the BenQ TK850i, Epson Pro Ex 10000, Panasonic PT-VZ580U and Optima HD39HDR.

    Much appreciated

I'm researching myself so I might be wrong. Won't mounting the projector behind you cast your shadow? I was under the impression you would mount projector forward, a short throw projector.

Yes if it's too far back you will cast a shadow especially if you are limited in ceiling height.

I have always used 16:9 but if you are using 4:3 make sure the projector will work for what you want.

I am a bit worried about this issue. I am trying to get a projector with a throw ration between 1 and 1.5, so I can try different position to minimize shadows. Everyone in my house is also right handed, so perhaps putting the camera a little offset to one side may also help limit this

Have you tried using the Projector Central website? It's a great resource for looking at different projectors and configurations.

        https://www.projectorcentral.com/Opt...r-pro.htm#calc

Just plug your models into the search bar and it likely has them in the database. You'll need to figure out how you want the screen to look as the projector capabilities will dictate the resolution.

My screen is exactly the same size, and my tee is 11' from the screen as well. That'll be 4x3 image if you want to maximize the picture, and that isn't ideal for "doubling as a theater." I use a "short throw" projector (Optoma HDRx), it's about 80" off the screen, so it's in front of the golfer, no shadows. Optoma's website has a perfect tool to at least explore projector location (in 3D) based on throw ratio. I think that a projector that is 11' away would require a 0.87 throw, and a 1:1 throw would be 151" away from the screen, or about 20" behind the golf tee. If you start adding accent lighting for the tee area, that light will go through the image. I suggest you look into a throw ratio between 0.49-0.7 for that purpose. See pic of my setup showing pinspot lighting - you can't see it mounted, but it is mounted at the top of the projector mount.
