  • Upgrage Projector for 4k Play and Swing Optix Camera

I am wanting to upgrade my Optima 1080HDR for my sim room. I want to play in 4k and would like to be able to use the swing optix camera with no flicker. I am looking for a recommendation around what projector to buy, if one could accomplish both tasks. I really like the BENQ LK936ST, but I believe that camera will still show flickering with the swing optix. Any insight or help would be appreciated from this group. Thank you!

Suggest you do a quick search on this site for "Swing Optics" "Flicker" and "Camera Lighting" - separately and collectively to do a bit of reading. There are many threads discussing and a lot of recent info to help you out. I will say it is not all projector - it is a combo of lighting type, type of projector (DLP vs LCD etc.) and screen resolution. Come back with specific questions as you do your research. Projector type then depends on placement and screen size, ambient lighting amongst many other factors.

    My two cents.

Thanks, I have done a bit of reading on the forum and have done a ton of research and have no issue with light flicker or screen resolution and have even played with the FPS on the Camera. I was just asking if anyone has rec'd for a projector that doesn't cause flicker with the swing optix camera and it appears not. Thanks!

It’s an issue with DLP and the frame rate of the projector off time with the frame rate capture of the cameras. As mentioned before you can run either a custom resolution to match the frequency or multiples of the frequency. Or you can reduce the capture frame rate to a multiple of the frequency. I think just like all things some people are more sensitive to it than others. It does not reduce the accuracy of the capture just an annoying background side effect. The users I see that have an issue usually do not have enough lighting for the capture making the screen stand out in the background.
