  • Moving up to 4K

Just ordered new Alienware R13 Desktop, should be here this week! Now I need a new projector! Currently running a Benq 617, it has performed very well! will be selling so if anyone is interested let me know! Ok I had it narrowed down to the Benq TK700STI, Optoma 4k400STX, and optoma UHD35STX, but I have possibly found another! The 3 previous are all DLP, this one the Optoma ZH406STX is a laser, slightly more but if its a laser and not have to worry about replacing bulb might be better! Existing screen is 8.5 high 11.5 wide in feet. Existing projector is about 14' away.

Have not seen any reviews for sims on this Optoma ZH406STX, anyone know if this would work? and also input on the 3 other projectors.

Side note my existing Alienware Desktop will be for sale also if anyone is interested, Alienware R9, Intel I5 9400 CPU@2.90, 6 core, 24 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1660Super

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

I went from th671 to tk700.. it's definitely an improvement but not life changing improvement. I'm happy with the upgrade.

That slightly depresses ME! I was hoping it would be MIND altering! its almost a 4000 upgrade! with PC and projector! I was hoping for more! Are you using TGC2019 or GS Pro or whatever its called? If you are using the GS Pro, did you have TGC 2019 previously? Was the change worth it if you did?

It's definitely an upgrade but it's not like going from skytrak to gc2 upgrade. Print on my screen is clearer than the th671st further from center. I have tgc/tgc2019/fsx2020
      and Gsp.
      Using premium Carl's screen.

I would have upgraded launch monitor first.

Wizard, I plan on replacing my Sky Trak with the new Uneekor Mini as soon as they release! I was trying to swing an XO but can't quite work it out! I am also using the Carls Premium screen,. I may replace my screen with a new Carls, its about 4 years old, no tears, I'm very happy, BUT my velcro along the top doesn't hold very well any more, the screen is pretty marked from balls BUT again I was truely happy with the Carls! Great product!

Mr69vett - Optoma ZH406STX is not 4K - it is Full HD (1920 x 1080). It would be a sideways move IMO. Also, watch closely your throw ratios! The Optoma 4k400STX is 0.50:1 (which if you are unfamiliar will need to be placed much (MUCH) closer than your current projector). Have you plugged the projectors into Projector Central to take a look at your placement? Generally this narrows the search very quickly IMO.

Jason, Thanks very much for the info! I was wondering wht the ZH was so reasonably priced being a laser! but not being 4K makes sense! GOOD CATCH! i DO not WANT TO GO SIDEWAYS! I will have to visit projector Central site, to see if I can figure out more info on projector. I could be closer with the projector but don't want to get to close! Again thanks for info!

The Optoma UHD35stx is a laser, 4k, and great throw ratio. I can see native grass waving in the breeze on mine

No, it's not laser. But I'm also considering it. Do you have any pics of your setup? My screen will be 10ft tall with about 12ft ball to screen.

You are right it is not a laser. I recall telling someone that by the time the bulb wears out a new laser 4k projector will be under $2k. The prices are continually falling, similar to TV’s.

Did you use a different projector prior to this and if so, which one? I'm thinking about upgrading from the GT1080 HD to a 4K for the upcoming season.

I did not. When I saw the specs on this I bought it and the picture is excellent. I have a building that I built for this use so I can control the lighting which helps.

I just ordered this projector. I was going with the BenQ820 and thought this looked better. Curious if you installed it and if so what you think. It’s not 4k, but can run the 4k upgraded video.

I am upgrading from the Optoma eh200st projector.

Well, since I didn’t see any feedback, I decided to go with the BenQ 936 instead. Just decided if I was going to spend money on another projector, I should make it worth the switch. Now we will see not big of a difference it makes switching to legit 4k and laser projector.

Holy Hell! I got the projector a day early and I took it back just to see how it would look. Incredible! This is going to be a game changer for using the sim this winter.
