I'm confused about the "maximum image size" spec reported by projector manufacturers. I've dug out my existing simulator room to raise the ceilings from 9 feet to 10 feet, which will change my aspect ratio from 16:9 to 16:10 and necessitate a new projector and impact screen (because I'm trying to maximize image size). I'm currently using an Optoma GT1080HDR, which generates 3,800 lumens and a reported max diagonal screen size of 307.8". I'm looking to replace it with an NEC NP-PE456USL, a laser projector that generates 4,500 lumens but, per manufacturer specs, maxes out at 130" diagonally. Is NEC being conservative, or am I missing some additional consideration(s)? Is there any reason I shouldn't go with the NEC?

I believe the specs are based on the "Ultra Short Throw" designation. If I'm understanding the way the measurements work, the 4500 lumen spec is measured at 4.2 feet from the screen, and at 4.2' from projector to screen, the biggest image it can produce is 130" diagonal. You could back the projector off to roughly9' from the screen & get a 300" diagonal image, but then your lumen measurement is no longer valid. The image is likely to be a bit washed out and not very sharp.
Plan out where you want the projector to be, and then find a projector that can produce, at normal lens and lamp settings, the image you want at that distance, both in image size and brightness.
