  • Optoma vertical offset issue

I’m trying to decide on a projector for my new simulator setup. I have a Carl’s 8 x 10.5 DIY enclosure set up in my garage. The screen is 91” tall. I plan to hit from 9’-10’ from the screen. Right now I’m primarily debating between the Optoma Gt1080HDR, GT1090HDR, or UHD35stx or the BenQ TK700sti or TH617ST.

The Optoma will be about 7’-8’ from the screen depending on how much vertical keystone I have to use.

Does anyone have experience using the Optomas with an enclosure that is 5’ deep? With the vertical offset being 15” on the Optoma it seems like that would cast shadow from the top of the enclosure, so then I’ll have to lower the projector and use the vertical keystone which I’m afraid will degrade the picture quality.

I don't use a cage, but i have ceiling netting for protection that is angled down towards the top of the screen and the image can get clipped if that netting sags at all. I don't see how the 5' depth would work without needing to tilt the projector.

I have the same issue and exact same Carl's DIY 8x10.5x5 enclosure I just put up over the weekend. My preferred plan is to place the projector on a rolling cart with lockable wheels or simply a small end table. Something I can move easliy out of the way. The one caveat is it would not be centered, so the projector would need vertical and horizontal keystone adjustments. I haven't found right projector yet for this under $1K. The cart would sit about 10 feet from the screen.
