  • Optoma GT1090HDR Lens

My daughter hit a 1 in a million shot and hit a ricochet into the projector lens which caused a dent/smudge/scratch right in the middle of the visible area. Anybody ever replace the lens or even know where to find one?

To answer my own question and give an update... No you can't just replace the lens without replacing much of the projector. I was able to turn the lens but that messed up the focus significantly, making it unusable in my space. Ended up upgrading to the 4K Optoma UHD35STx as it will be the same throw distance. Its not the laser lamp that I had and liked but ehh. I am going to put a piece of acrylic in front of the lens this time. If anyone has a better idea I'm open minded.

Last Update... I bought the Optoma UHD35STx and it works wonderfully... except for the amount of lumens in the garage. At night the picture is gorgeous, but with much daylight it fades out much more than the 4200 lumens of the GT1090hdr. So I went back to the internet and found a video of a guy replacing a GT1080hdr lens and decided to try one more time. I was able to take the projector back apart and refocus the lens. Then I scored the glue off the plastic piece holding the lens and removed it. I popped out the lens and twisted it praying that the lens wasn't concave or something on that end. I tested it and it worked!!!

After putting it all back together, I cut an acrylic piece by scoring and breaking it and used Velcro to attach it in front of the lens. This also works great and I can remove it to clean ect. I would include pictures but I stink at that. So use your imagination.

I may save the UHD35STx for a basement finish or return it. Depends on what my wife wants. I will say that in my research I think the lens for the GT1080hdr or the Smart U55 will work with the GT1090hdr. But, since I didn't need to take that step, I don't know for sure. I hope someone finds this useful, and if you think that you can't ever hit the lens of the projector, it happened to me
