  • 1080p laser vs 4k DLP 4:3 screen

Hi guys, relatively new to the golf sim world. I have my set up up and running a few month is my garage, with a skytrak, pc (rtx 3080) and an optoma gt1080 (older model discontinued 2018) projector. I started off with self build pc and got a unused still in sealed box optoma gt1080 projector on a local market place. Guy used to install racing sims but had poor health and was selling off the last of his old stock. I have since upgraded my impact screen to a premium poly spacer raw material from spectrum golf simulator. I would like to somewhere in the not too distant future , upgrade the projector. i find that although the optoma is "grand" for now, id like to get the best i can to enhance experience. So my screen is approx 300cm wide x 270 cm tall or 120" x 108" due to limitations on space etc. I have currently got my set up to a 4:3 aspect ratio.

so my question is , if I upgrade the projector am I better off going for a laser 1080p projector for the better ansi lumens and sharp image or 4k for the higher resolution. as I'm running in a 4:3 aspect ratio I'm wondering what would get the best image quality for the screen size etc as it kind of confuses me with regards the correlation between the 2. eg does a 4k image lose quality run at 4:3. should a 4:3 screen only use an XGA projector ???

sorry just a bit of a head**** for someone who isn't all that up to speed on some of these things and i don't want to buy a projector to find out its not the right fit for me.

I'm trying to stay in the budget of maybe €1000-€1500 but depending on options could possibly go a little higher. short throw if possible but I have aprox 4m of space to work with.

I had been looking at the benqtk700sti but not sure if its right or should I be contemplating other avenues as their are SO MANY projectors out there.

I presume the image quality of a laser is better than a DLP but i obviously cant afford a 4k laser, so would a 1080 laser come close to a 4k DLP, these are all the questions flying around my head

anyone with any thoughts or tips would be greatly apprectiated.

I run a BenQ TK700STi Projector running in 4K through a Yamaha RX-A4A amp, and this with the 4K settings in TGC2019 produces a Quality 4K 2160P 60Hz Image 150” Wide in 4:3 without any issues. The 4:3 is set up within the TGC / The BenQ & my Amp with no image ratio or quality loss at all. Hope that helps
i use the BenQ TK700 because it was one of only 2 or 3 projectors that could produce an 3000mm wide image from 3600mm Distance - Ceiling Mount

I have a Optoma GT1090HDR (1080p Laser) and like the quality of the image and the lumens in the garage. I had a mishap when my daughter hit the lens off the rebound and bought an Optoma UHD35STX (4k) and the image was amazingly crisp but if I used it in the daytime it was very washed out, so I figured out a way to turn the lens and put the Optoma GT1090HDR back up. My advise is if you can get it dark in the garage go 4k, because it is beautiful, but if you have windows go with the laser and the higher lumens
