  • Projector For Right Handed Only

I'm building a simulator for right handed hitting only due to space restrictions.

    Projector will be ceiling mounted.

Stupid question but should I put it on the left side of the room or should it still go in the middle?

Also, room length is just over 14 feet - it would make sense to have the projector 13 feet from the impact screen as then it's close to the back wall and power points are only on that wall. Does this make sense and can I still get a short throw projector?

The screen itself will have 8 feet by just over 8 feet (96" x 104.5"), of projectable screen space.

I'm completely new to this as you can probably tell!

I would place the projector directly over the hitting zone. So in your case looking from back to front it would be offset right slightly I would imagine. And I would take the time to run a new power point to your desired mounting postilion which again would be over (+/-) your hitting position. So, you can absolutely use a short throw projector.

Thanks that makes sense. I'll need a short through then. Is there anything specific I need to look for in terms of the projector being mounted on the right side? Or can you adjust most projectors for this?

So I'm thinking of getting the Optoma GT2000HDR because of the gaming mode with low lag and high refresh rate (plus 3500 lumens, as my space is quite bright).

When I run the calculator for my impact screen size (which is 8ft or 96" wide) it says the throw should be 48". Is this the minimum (i.e. I can move it back) or should I put it at this spot?

So based on your suggestion, I'd mount this 2ft to the right of centre (on 8ft total width) above the hitting zone. It says the horizontal keystone is +/-30° - that should work?

Finally, to reach the nearest power point, I'd probably need like a 15ft long power cable - I assume you can source these online?

So I highly recommend you spend some time on Projector Central - the defacto resource for most of us here. You projector is here: Optoma GT2000HDR Projection Calculator - Throw Distance and Screen Size (projectorcentral.com)

For an 8x8 foot image, it says you will mount the projector 7' back.
