  • Projector placement question

I'm building a golf simulator, and I'm not sure how to place the projector so I don't get a shadow on the screen.

My screen is 3 meters (9.8 feet) high by 4 meters (13.1 feet) wide.
The ball will be 8 feet (2.4 meters) from the screen.

I have 3-meter (9.8 feet) high ceilings, and the total length of the room is 4.5 to 5 meters (14.8 to 16.4 feet).
How far back does the projector need to be to get a full picture and not cast a shadow?

    Thanks.

Have you already purchased a projector or are in the selection process ?

Shadows depend on distance from projector to screen, projector mount point depends on throw ratio and desired image size. Ability to digitally shift the image left/right allows you to place the projector off-axis / above the right handed golfer thus minimizing shadows.

Also I don't mind spending around 1500 on a projector. That would be my max.

Try looking at something like this: https://www.projectorcentral.com/Ben...ulator-pro.htm

Projector Central has a lot of info to help you choose.

Just a rough guess, but you can have the projector maybe 9' from the screen without casting a shadow when the golfer is at address.

            This isn't complicated.

Simply draw a model of your projector, location of the screen and the golfer. If a line from the edge of the projector lens to the screen doesn't intersect the golfer you will not have a shadow. If your projector lens is at or in front of the golfer then also no shadow.

What gets problematic is when you have a long throw distance distance projector which may mean the golfer intersects the beam as it travels from projector to screen simply because the projector has to be far behind the golfer to fill the hitting screen area.
