  • 4k projector but 1080p monitor?

I‘m considering upgrading some of my sim, and was looking at a 4k projector. The BENQ TK710 STI has the same throw ratio as my existing BENQ TH682ST, so in theory it should just sit on my existing bracket without any modification.

I’m going to have to upgrade the GFX card in my PC to handle the 4k graphics… which I’m happy to do too.

The question is my monitor. I currently have a Hanns-G HT231HPB Touch Screen Monitor on a bracket on the wall. It’s a cheap and cheerful monitor, but fits perfectly in the space I have… and is touch screen - which is really useful.
Can I run my projector at a resolution of 3840×2160, but still run my monitor at 1980x1080? The monitor’s maximum resolution is 1080p, and I’d rather not have to change that too.

Did you get an answer to this? I have similar situation with a new HDR projector, works fine by itself, however when i connect a splitter to my touch 22 in screen on the wall it downgrades the signal and i am unable to use the touch sceen

I don't have a real answer, as I'm still waiting got my new RTX5090 to arrive so I can run 4k.
What I can say, is that I tried setting my output to 4k, and both my monitor and projector wee fine. The projector showed a true 4k image, and my monitor displayed a downscaled version of it - but worked fine.

FSX was completely unplayable - even just the sea sloshing about in the 7th at Pebble Beach was stuttering massively!

Do you mirror your image from the monitor to the projector? I had read that in order to do that, it will only use the lowest setting of one of the devices. Is that not true? I figured when I upgrade my projector to 4k, I would need to do the monitor as well since it's a 1080.

Mine is mirrored. I set my resolution to 3840 x 2160, and then accepted the change.
When I loaded FSX and looked in the settings, it was set at 3480 x 2160 (and stuttered like hell) and my 1080p touch screen monitor still worked.

How is the touch screen run . Is it on a separate hdmi cable from your PC or on a splitter from your projector ?

Currently, I have an HDMI from my projector to the graphics card, and a DVI cable (and USB) from my monitor to my graphics card.

The 5090 I have on order has 2x HDMI outs, so I’ll need to swap the DVI cable from my monitor to an HDMI.

So I do a variation of this actually. I run my projector at WUXGA (1920 x 1200), my 48" plasma TV at 1080p and my 32" monitor touch screen at 1440p. Just set up in either windows or with NVIDIA app. I don't see why it would not work with 4K.

That's correct. I believe this is a Windows OS limitation. Even with a strong NVIDIA (or similar) GPU, the only workaround I've found is to "extend" the displays and drag the SIM video to the projector screen.

My projector is 100% running at 4k, and my monitor is running at 1080p as it’s not capable of 4k.
I think I have the projector as the main display though.

The RTX5090 is amazing - not a single stutter, and the GFX turned up as high as they can go.

I'll have to give that a try. Although mine is an RTX3050. It's decent enough to produce great video without lag, and I'd love to upgrade, but yours cost almost 1/3 of the cost of my whole setup.😂

I've gone from a GTX1070Ti to the RTX5090 - so quite an upgrade! It was 9 years old - and was still decent enough on FSX Play on most courses with the graphics at a medium level at 1080p.
I could run the projector at 4k and the monitor at 1080p on that - but as soon as I hit a ball, the jerking and stutter were immediate, and it was unusable! Even a course with water rippling was enough to cause a struggle!
