  • Help with projector selection for Flightscope setup

Happy Thanksgiving all - I have a room 16 wide by 32 long, 10' ceilings. I have a Flightscope X2 Elite and plan to put that against the back wall. Hitting area will be 11 feet in front of that , which means I'll have about 19' to the screen assuming it's 2' from the wall. I was planning on a 15 wide by essentially 9.5 - 10 foot tall screen. I was thinking of putting the projector about 16-17 feet from the screen, but it seems I won't have enough distance to cover this size of screen? Any input is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Me I had to go with a short throw because of the room dimensions and the screen size I wanted to end up with.
IF you look at a higher epson 5030 or better yet a 6030, with good zoom and lens shift, use a omnimount propjt mount and it'll keep it tight to the ceiling. Then you can adjust your image without worrying about the tilt of the proj. I too have a lot of experience with this. I don't like short throws on sims because short throws don;t have lens shift and typically are pointed down quite a bit to achieve the picture you want.

Hi - I am just about finishing a build out which is very similar to what you are considering, here in the UK. My room is roughly 26ft long by 13ft wide with 9ft 6 ceilings. I am using a Flightscope X2 model C with E6 software. I went for a Sony VPL-HW40ES projector which is positioned just behind and above the hitting position at roughly 16ft from the screen. The image it projects is about 10ft wide. I have used a net which is basically a piece of Archery net sewn onto black light blocking material that wraps behind the net and comes roughly 9ft up each side of the room. I get no issues with shadows on the screen and there is no chance that the balls or clubs are going to hit the screen.

The only issue I have had which has involved changes to the original design is balls hitting the ceiling when either mishit with a driver or using very lofted wedges. I solved this problem by lining the ceiling with roughly 4ft (from screen) of 6mm plywood and then sticking 14mm interlocking childs playmat tiles onto the plywood. Mishit balls now bounce off the ceiling into the impact screen rather than punching a hole in the ceiling!

I have read many reviews of this type of screen that complain it is not high enough quality to watch movies on. Given I am sat nearly 20ft from the screen I think the screen is really good and given it cost a fraction of what the equivelent impact screen would have cost, I am really happy.

Thanks for the insight everyone - couple things came up. Yes I didn't really think about the distance from the screen, I'll go 13', as that's what Flightscope says they want for ball travel. My big hangup now is the screen size. I was looking at the Optoma EH200ST as recommended - looking at Visual apex's calculator, if I wanted to have a screen 9.5 tall, I would have to have a almost 17' wide screen? I guess what I'm asking is I would like the screen to be 9.5 tall by about 14 or 15' wide. Is there an aspect ratio, etc that would accomodate this so that there isn't 2 feet of width off the screen? I would just like to fill it up, but maybe that's not possible?

        Thanks!!
