Idea distance to mount projector

Hi everyone,

I have used the projector calculator but had a few questions.

The calculator on projector central, is this distance idea for simulation?
What is the idea distance to mount projector. I have the optoma gt1080.
Would making adjustments within the projector (keystones, vertical/horizontal shift reduce the image quality?
Should the projector be close to the screen as possible for a brighter image?

the gt1080 has no zoom so how big your screen/image will be is going to dictate your mounting location. you also don't want to be able to hit the projector with flop shot.

adjusting keystone does decrease image quality and this projector has a lot of vertical shift. the calculator on projector central says 15". i thought it was more than that but you definitely have to mount the projector (if ceiling mounted) much higher than where the top of the image starts on the screen otherwise you have to use keystone adjustment.

I ran the calculator based on my setup and it says 7' back from the screen will give you a 16:9 image that is 14' wide. sounds about right. i hit from 10' back from the screen and with it 7' back, i've never hit my projector but i did build a wood box around it just in case.

how does one get floor to ceiling picture when the calculator wants me to put it 12in above or below the border of the screen?

Do you have 10' walls? When you mounted your Optoma, did you use an extension mount or just the base of a mount?

I have a 10' ceiling. I use an extension mount. I can measure tonight but it is at least 15" from the ceiling.

I have 11 foot ceilings in my garage. There was no need to use any extension.

it depends on how far back the projector is mounted. at 7' back, I get a 16' wide image. If my projector was mounted all the way up to the ceiling my picture would start a couple feet up from the floor, or I would have to use keystone correction.
