Well after 2 years of dusty garage golf duties my beloved Viewsonic PJD6531w has finally shown its age. I now have about 16 blown pixels and an image that is fading in and out. After researching a bit I have selected the Optoma HD26.

Currently my Viewsonic projector is ceiling mounted and is located approximately 15.5 feet from the lens to the projector. This fills the 10 foot wide x 8 foot high impact screen but leaves some blank space on the very top of the screen.

I believe that the HD26 should allow me to use that space as well as run natively in 1080p / 60hz / 16:9

Did I choose wisely oh great projector gurus?

Well the HD26 although does seem to do well with the 1080P content is not very good with brightness. I am sending this back to Amazon and going to try the GT1080 gaming projector. Let's hear it for moving that damn mount one more time!

I have the 1080 as well and this is what i did for mounting to accommodate both 16:9 and 4:3. I can slide the projector back and forth as needed and keep the full width of the screen.

For me it's the wasted space on the top and bottom of the screen. It bugs me to no end!

Haha im liking the gt1080 and feel its plenty bright enough for me, never had any other projector though so dont have much to compare it to

I have up to 17 feet of depth to my impact screen but should have no issues placing the GT1080 anywhere along the way so that it fits the screen nicely. I am not convinced I didn't get a bad HD26 unit as it wasn't anywhere near as crisp or bright as I has expected. I gave it almost a full 4 weeks to try to adjust or dial it in but since I just can't seem to get it where I want it to be its going back. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime!

Yea amazon prime really is a must in my life nowadays as well haha. And thats plenty of depth, I think I have mine on the ceiling about 9 or 10 feet away from the the 10' x 9' screen. Its a short throw projector but ended up having to move it back a few more feet then I first thought because I forgot i would have to have it in 4:3 mode to fill up the entire screen. It still worked nicely though as long as you have the room space to adjust it forward or backward and sounds like you do, should be good to go.

Since I have zero other projector experience, Ill be interest on reading your review based against the other one you had

The GT1080 should be here tomorrow. Not sure if I will be able to get it installed before the weekend or not but I am anxious to see if this is a better option.

Well the GT1080 in 4:3 mode does the job. It took quite a few adjustments to get the image exactly the way I wanted. This included moving the mount a total of 3 times and countless noodling with the Nvidia software. The projector is mounted about 5-6 feet from the screen and by placing it in 4:3 mode the end result is a nice full screen image that is crisp, clear and bright. The GT1080 is a keeper.

Haha, yea may want to try moving it closer, its weird, the picture with the gt1080 almost looks more realistic here but the HD26 looks more pure in the colors but not as life like. Its probably just because of the shadows and lighting affects on the tee in the gt1080 pic compared to the others though. My screen looks somewhat similar to yours, luckily with my black curtains on the side I just moved the projector back enough to fill everything and cant really see the bleed over too much if its there. I think the full screen being covered was more important to me then the little better quality of moving it closer, but that's just me. As long as you don't mind maybe taking away some of the screen, have to imagine moving it closer would make the quality better for sure. Let us know if you find it better or not, it seems like a bunch of us have that same projector

Actually I am quite happy with the image of the GT1080. I think I need to tweek the colors a bit more but having the entire screen filled was my goal. Now if I could get my handicap to drop then I will be in great shape!
