  • DLP and rainbow effect

    Hello everybody.

I am working on the construction of my future (skytrack based) golf simulator.

I will probably go for a floor based projector setup. Therefore, I believe I will have to choose a "short throw model".

But my concern is that most of the short throw projectors seem to rely on the DLP technology.
And I remember from 10 years ago, when I was seting up my first Home Theater, that I was highly sensitive to the rainbow effect generated by mono DLP projector.

Is it still an issue on nowadays models?

in that case, any 3LCD alternative to recommand?

many thanks in advance for your help!

I had an old DLP projection TV which had noticeable rainbow effect. I was hesitant about getting the BenQ 1085ST, but I have not noticed any rainbow effect whatsoever with it. I dont watch TV or movies on it..its used only for the golf sim.

Ok, many thanks for your feedback. And even after a few hours on the sim, you don't notice any headache or other bad feeling?

I've always used Optoma DLP projectors, 1080p, for both movies and simulator...although mine are long throw and different screens. I've never seen the rainbow effect. My sim screen is woven and, as a result, it is difficult to see the individual pixels which at seventeen feet are about 1/16 inch square.
