Cold weather projector thread update (Optoma GT1080)

OK, so in continuation of my prior thread, its time for another update. If you've been following, I live in Maine and only heat my garage when playing sim golf in it, so the temps get quite cold.

We've hit a run of really cold weather here for the last week or so, it's been in the negatives every night and it has bottomed out at least as low as -7f twice. Sunday it warmed up during the day to the 40's and I was easily able to get the garage up to temp, and played a pleasant round with no issues.

Today was a slightly different story. The temperature was -7f when I went out, and due to that, I was having propane flow issues and my heater wouldn't run much above idle. I don't have a thermometer but I'm estimating that my garage temps peaked around 20 degrees today. I also ran into my first issue with my Optoma GT1080. It booted right up, but after running for 15 or so seconds I got an error message on the screen (paraphrasing here) "Fan obstructed, please contact service center." Basically it was so cold that the fan froze up, either from condensation or from the temp being so cold that the lubricant froze solid. After which, two red lights stayed flashing on the unit (I have it ceiling mounted and couldn't read the writing.)

I gave it another 5 minutes or so and attempted a restart, no issues this time. I played a full 18 holes and then shut it down.

I'll continue the updates! The next one will come on a warmer day, at least warm enough to get my heater operating correctly.

You might throw a blanket around it when done with the cool down is causing some moisture I would imagine

It's too high to be convenient, plus I'm kind of curious to see how much abuse it'll take. We'll see!

I have the same projector mounted in my garage as well and we've also been going through a pretty cold stretch. I think max was 1 or 2 below, pretty cold. I'll post if i have any issues. I plan on trying to get a round in tonight.

Same as wbond, same projector, got really cold last weekend in the garage. Haven't noticed any issues thus far.

I had the same concern and bought a Peerless Quick Disconnect Projector Mount (PRGS-UNV) from Amazon for $90. The adjustable ceiling extension was another $61. Loosen one knurled thumb screw and the projector pops right off the ceiling mount. Takes longer to get the ladder from the corner of the garage.
