  • Ceiling mounted projector protection

Just curious what you guys have done to protect your ceiling mounted projector. Seems like a matter of time before it gets hit by a stray ball or a really terrible swing.

Is it a short throw?? Mine isn't it's behind me above and never had issues. I belive there is a casing you can buy to protect it if it's a short throw. Check with the manufacturer. Or amazon

Nope, there isn't one listed on Optoma's web site. Back to square one.

Are you worried about a bounce back of 8-10 feet from the screen likely 8-10 feet high?

No, I'm more worried about a high teed up ball getting "skyed" vertically with a driver, or someone coming over with a real erratic swing accidentally hitting it.

Look for a wire basket at a home store, dollar store, $5 below etc. Small enough that a ball cannot go through the openings. It's easy to cut the wires out in front of the lens with sidecutters. I've seen a couple guys do this.

Unless someone is screwing around there is virtually no chance of a swing hitting it, unless you golf with Barkley. He defies golf swing logic.

I tried to figure this out a year ago. It's going to come down to DIY skills, and as wbond said a wire basket such as a mini laundry basket would potentially work. I never did get it to work. I've never had an issue with a ball getting close to it though. On a couple occasions my club grabbed the power cord and HDMI cord. Which was scary. i have an offset setup though so it's slightly riskier that way.

Here is a pic of the wire basket concept. Picked it up at the Home Depot in the section where they have modular shelving and furniture components. Got one the right size to cover the projector, and anchored it to the drywall. I think we hit a ceiling truss on one side, and then used drywall anchors on the others. Used wire cutters to cut out the area where the projector lense is located. Works like a charm. I put it in mainly to protect against someone accidently hitting the projector with a club, even though it is no where near the swing path. I figured if I left it exposed, it would get hit.
