Better than no discount, though there's little chance I'll be getting pro data before April.

The PRO package should be available after the PGA Show, ie in late January or early February. The data will therefore be available before April. April 1st is only the date until which the discount can be applied.

True but if I were buying the upgrade for D plane data, it wouldn't be until much later this year.

Mirek_62 I see now that I was misusing the term, since the Pro package doesn't offer all the necessary data points to actually examine D-plane, though I'm still interested in all the additional directional data it offers.

My mistake, sorry for the confusion.

Ridiculous! Charging $1000, 50% of the original purchase price, to simply unlock functionality, or to upgrade the software is unconscionable. Offering a mere 10% discount to their loyal customers is a slap in the face. Shame on you Flightscope.

The shills (so called Beta Testers) will, as usual, be on Youtube singing the praises, but I hope most of us will say NO.

Nobody's forcing you to buy it.

Even with a $ 1000 surcharge for the Pro package, Mevo+ will be at 1/3 the price of competing units providing similar ball and clubs data.

Hard disagree. I'll have $2700 into one. Tell me another launch monitor with the 27 parameters it will offer at that price.

I figured the discount would be between 10 and 25%. I think the 10% is driven by the lack of competition at the price point. If the accuracy is truly within 1 degree for path and FTP then there is nothing else in the market currently that offers this at $3k. R10 doesn't claim to be that accurate and even if Full Swing Kit gets it together they are still at $4k. For those of us fortunate enough to have gotten the M+ at $1800 that is all in for $2700. I will wait until I see some reviews but if positive will still likely purchase the pro package.

I do think that indoors the R10 and the Mevo + are both calculating the spin axis indoors the same way - from spin, club path and face angle (H Launch) information but the M+ is simply better at collecting the data. The R10 really struggled (even outdoors (?)) with spin axis initially but with firmwate updates sounds like they have improved. My takeaway is that for basic data like ball speed, H & V launch the R10 is very good but for the more advanced data like spin, spin axis, path, face to path is not at the same level as Mevo Plus (although spin axis will always be a challenge in limited flight for any radar). Its odd to me that the R10 doesn't list accuracy of club path data? Tolerance of club path data + tolerance of face angle + accuracy of spin readings have a huge effect on spin axis readings - even for center hits. Those seemingly small improvements in measurements and subsequent calculations from M+ make a difference.

        Hi Dan

I don't expect the club data for R10 to be very accurate, it is a 600 buck unit after all, but the ball data is very good, i can only compare to skytrak.

I look forward to using over the summer and comparing the two units, I will get a mevo plus in 2023 and then compare the 3.

78mph driver SS is 117mph ball speed hit with a 1.5 smash factor, but even if you assume that the average female amateur hits clubs with the same smash as the LPGA Trackman averages (unlikely), a 6i @ 64mph SS, 1.39 smash will fall around 88-89mph, getting worse the further down the bag you move from there.

In their shoes, I'd be a bit disappointed if essentially every approach club wasn't being measured, though it's still very, very good for $600USD. If they improve it so short game is more robust, it'll be an absolute gem of a device for home practice and range work, especially since they have so many simulation partners already.

Was hoping for 20% or more, going to have to think about this now. For the recreational golfer I am not sure how much this would help me.

Skytrak doesn't read club head speeds - it's just guessing. This data is basically unusable and it's just marketing.

MEVO+ reads the spin axis - at least it states it in its documents (and even in comparison with Skytrak, the spin axis was comparable).

The spin axis is very important especially for feedback.

          Ok thanks Mirek_62

This is how trackman gets spin axis if anyone is interested.

          Indoor vs Outdoor Mode
Note: When using TrackMan in “outdoor” mode, the first ~30 yards of ball flight are used to determine the spin axis value. However, since the spin axis does not change during the ball flight, this measurement is considered to be made after separation from the club face.

When using TrackMan in “indoor” mode, the club delivery measurements (spin loft and face to path) are used to calculate the spin axis.

This is how Trackman does it. Where do you get the certainty that Flightscope does the same? If Trackman has a patented solution, FS must do it differently.

I never said anything about how Flightscope gets spin axis, this is just what i got from Trackman website for people who might be interested.

        Here's another option:

For $599 you can buy a Garmin R10 and possibly get most of what the so-called Pro Package will provide. Ironically, I sold my R10 to buy the Mevo+ with the improvements Garmin has made to its software, the R10's accuracy now compares favorably to the M+, at least according to one Youtube Comparison by David Maxwell. It's an interesting video.

You also get data in Awesome Golf with the Garmin that is missing with a Mevo+.

        Approach R10 Measurements:
        • Carry Distance
        • Club Head Speed
        • Smash Factor
        • Apex (max height of ball flight)
        • Ball Speed
        • Spin Rate/axis
        • Launch Angle
        • Angle of Attack
        • Club Path Angle
        • Club Face Angle
        • Launch Direction

It'd be more useful to compare each to GCQ/EXO and see how far they deviate from the camera unit data than to run both radar units simultaneously.

There was a forum comparison done already but it was at the R10 release so it might be time to try it again with the new firmware.

The Mevo+ with the Pro Package will measure/report 27 things. The R10 measures/reports… 14? https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/695391#specs They're not all that comparable, and the R10 doesn't do more for less $.

I think if they marketed and sold a separate Mevo+ Pro unit for $3k all up with these extra data, extra battery life (e.g. 2 x 18650), and a built-in screen that shows readings (like Full Swing Kit or GC3), then they would have had a mega hit product..

But as an extra 50% up charge from the original Mevo+, that gets you no extra hardware or software and just some extra numbers on an existing FS Golf app, I think many won't see good value in it, and that includes myself tbh.

But yeah, for those that hasn't bought a Mevo+ yet, the total cost of $3k that gives this much data & accuracy, and better sim capability (than for example the R10) is really good still and there really is no competition really. But for existing Mevo+ users, it may be a hard sell IMO.

Seems unlikely, given that the X3 doesn't even have a screen, though I could get behind improved battery life without having to use USB power banks.

Why a screen placed on a small unit that stands on the ground? Will I bend over to the unit after each shot to read some selected dates? The solution with a phone (tablet) is much better, in addition, the flight of the ball is graphically represented (important in the hall), I can draw all the shots at once, incl. grouping. I can specify thresholds for individual data and I can immediately see if I am within the required range or outside, etc.

Not to mention the unit is several feet behind you as well so there's some walking between every shot. At least the Foresight monitors are right beside the hitting area for this sort of use.

I would like to see a comparison using the GC Quad. I'm especially interested in indoor use, particularly small areas with minimum dimensions. For me, that would be the most useful.

Is it possible to operate two radar-based units, such as a R10 and Mevo+, at the same time?

Even without dots, shows how good garmin indoor estimates are, in this case they were better than mevo estimates in David maxfields eyes.

          Suit yourself.

It seems like a comparison of limited worth without a benchmark control to measure the two datasets against (for all we know, they're both wildly incorrect) and done under less than optimal conditions.

Could someone test R10 again and Mevo + as is against GCQuad and then again with the pro package.

Can't find much mevo plus comparisons vs trackman and Quad on youtube.

          Thank you

I'm still on the fence on purchasing the pro package.
10% off 1K. not enough of a discount for me to buy the pro package when it first comes out.
I would rather buy the new Taylormade Stealth driver than upgrade to the pro package.

The paid Pro package upgrade is just unlocking parameters the device already measures but shouldn't affect the accuracy of the unit.

Fusion tracking is going to be a free software update for all users that uses both the integrated camera and radar but it's unclear to what extent it will improve reading on the Mevo+.

      • #15
The discount for existing users is nice (if a bit small)… but the real concern for me is: Will fusion tracking work well in low-light situations?

Many of us have golf simulators in darkened rooms (to help with screen brightness.).

Under these conditions, will the built-in camera on the Mevo+ be able to capture enough information to be useful in fusion tracking? I suspect not.
