MEVO Plus Club Head Speed Calculated or Measured

Does anyone know if the Mevo Plus measures club speed or calculates it? I'm assuming measures but wanted to confirm. I don't suppose it measures club face closed or open? Thanks folks!

It's measured. If it was calculated it the ratio between ballspeed and clubhead speed would be the same(same smash factor).

Just a nitpick: SkyTrak calculates CH speed, but does not do it in the simplistic way of fixing a smash factor. It considers club selected, spin, and launch angles, and it gets it very close in my testing against the Mevo+.

It does measure face and path but it's locked from showing it. It's only used by the unit to calculate spin axis.

        Yes exactly StuartG .
it has to know the path data so it can use that along with horizontal launch direction and other direct measures to estimate a spin axis / face angle. This is similar for trackmen. (Indoors)

For TM spin loft and face to path are used. I should also note that TM has been working on a few additional calculations to compute spin axis and gear effect. I believe some of these are released and they are working on some unique other things to measure these parameters indoors.

Yes , I'm not saying they are the exact same methods , but my point is , the mevo is going to be using path data along with other direct measurements to give a spin axis.

I've heard TM is trying to locate strike point to help with gear. No clue as to if flightscope have anything to compensate for toe and heel strikes , as I imagine if not then this would alter the measured path somewhat on those shots.

This is why I will use a gc2 indoors and mevo+ outside, concerned about radar spin axis with 8-10 feet of ball flight I must admit.
And I do love a toe strike

The tech will be similar in Mevo to Trackman. The radar will not measure face angle or position of strike thus will struggle with gear effect. I am sure they are working on algorithms to help this. It will measure horizontal path and vertical path (ie AoA) so the spin data will be decent. Calculated data is not bad but it does rely on the measured points to be good. Optimal flight is working on a good algorithm that will calculate club data from ball data. It will be accurate enough except on off center strikes that will have more gear effect.

Yes it's the same for all radar units indoors. But both face angle and path are needed for spin axis, it can't be calculated from just the club path.
Horizontal gear effect doesn't need face angle - but it does need impact location as well as some way to estimate C.G. and MOI. Since the last two are really impossible for the radar, it will never be perfect but it should be somewhat reasonable using center of volume and some common MOI values for various clubs. But I haven't heard of any efforts that Flightscope might be making for gear effect, only Trackman. Fortunately it's only really an issue for drivers/woods/hybrids, not irons or wedges.

Why is it locked from showing? Will this be a future feature we will have to pay for?

The more data you show the more the client has to pay. It is the business model all use. If they would present all the data why even bother buying an X3 when you can buy 5 Mevos for the same money.

It is unlikely FS will present more since it competes with their own product line. But if the device gets popular some might crack the firmware.

When I had an Xi+ I suggested to FS that they would allow us to buy additional parameters but never heard back. I actually think a “parameter on demand” could be beneficial for all parties.
