Mevo+ Projector Output and iOS Limitations?

I haven’t had a chance to play with one hands on yet, but have one on pre-order. There are so many great features with this unit, although a couple issues that seems really disappointing is a lot of the simulator community would appear to have a PC and projector setup, and it seems like Mevo+ is really about the iOS support only.

    For example:
    • The packaged e6 Software is iOS only (no PC support unless you purchase the other bundles)
    • FS Skills, FS Golf Apps are iOS only. Confirmed with support they do not have plans to release Mevo+ apps to the PC

This makes things tedious having to switch between iOS and PC to switch between different apps like TGC (PC) and the Flightscope apps (iOS)….

Also when outputting the iOS apps to my projector, they didn’t fill the entire screen, but were limited to the iPad resolution with borders around all edges, perhaps only filling around half the screen, which really takes away from the simulator experience!

Not sure if anyone has solutions to the iOS projector output issue? I think support could be built into the applications, but don’t know how motivated the companies will be to do so. For example, Netflix will detect when outputting to a secondary display and maximize the image accordingly. Another option may be outputting to an Apple TV which would then resize the image, but that’s just another component to mess with…

    Thoughts, suggestions?

IPads project at a fixed 4:3 ratio, iPhones at 16:9. No way around it with E6 Connect or the FS apps on iOS.

Although the developers should be able to tweak the apps to support external outputs at different resolutions/ratios: https://medium.com/@hacknicity/exter...s-665cd1774511

Examples of apps that do this are Netflix, Keynote, etc.

Sounds like there are some PC mirroring apps, or Apple TV that could enable adjustments to the display, simulating something like you’d do on a TV with, zoom, wide zoom, etc. Perhaps even some projectors support those features natively.

When I get some time I’ll play around, and report back if I can get something working. Although ultimately it would be great if the apps better supported this in the future. The small images really limit the experience.

E6 Connect for IOS is a joke. I am grateful that I didn’t have to pay for it as it came with my Mevo+. It is unplayable projected through iPhone X and very underwhelming through iPad. I’ve tried lightning to HDMI, AirPlay through Apple TV, changed aspect ratios on my projector, and enabled zoom to fill more of the screen. You just end up with a larger image that looks even worse. I will use the E6 Connect demo through PC until I decide on whether to buy the E6 Connect subscription for PC or go with TGC 2019.

Digitally zoomed 14:9 ratio on a 4:3 screen through iPAD via Airplay through Apple TV.

IPad to projector via lightning to HDMI interface.

How did you use AirPlay to display over AppleTv while connected to the Mevo+ WiFi? I didn’t think that would be possible since the Mevo+ monopolizes the WiFi connection of the iPad.

It is possible. I just got apple AirPlay to work with the Mevo+. You have to make sure both your Apple TV and your iPad (or iphone) are both on the Mevo+ WiFi network signal.
You will lose internet on your Apple TV and won’t be able to play online but it will allow you to AirPlay your iPad (or iPhone) to your Apple TV hooked up to your projector.
                Works great.

When you select the Mevo WiFi network on your Apple TV it may seem to stall but just screen mirror your IPad (or iPhone) and and it will allow you to AirPlay it.

Sorry, I didn’t have the Mevo+ hooked up when I took the pic. Nonetheless, there was no visible benefit in going this route and you are right - it doesn’t work anyways.

Ok thanks.. thought I was missing something obvious lol.. I’m using a lightning to HDMI adapter and it works great... but would prefer a wireless option if I can find a way

Hi - I just received my Mevo+ yesterday and was frustrated with the requirement of the iPad and Mevo+ needing to be on the same network, which made AirPlay impossible. However, and maybe everyone else has figured this out already, I was able to get all three working by switching my projector (with airplay built in) over to the Mevo's wifi. It's a closed network without access to the internet, but the internet is not needed to get all three communicating with one another. And now it works. I just need to switch my projector back to my home wifi when not being used with the Mevo.

When I was initially frustrated with the inability to get Airplay working with the iPad and Mevo, I found this thread and sort of abandoned hope to get them all working together. I ordered the lightning to HDMI adapter and then cancelled it once I found this work around. I realize I'm about 3 months late to this thread, but figured this might help someone.

drscho thanks for providing pics, gives a good idea on options. I’ll have to check into it more but my UsbC to HDMI gets shrunk and put in the middle of the screen with large borders all around (literally only uses half the screen)

If Mevo+ is trying to target the simulator community, they really need to address this.

tonybrown32 Haven’t tried this yet, but another wireless option may be to airplay to a PC, if you already have a PC setup: https://www.apowersoft.com/display-i...-computer.html

The things is that both e6 and Flightscope have PC versions of the software too, they just would need to tweak to provide a Mevo version/feature set.

This is what it looks like without any manipulation of image size or aspect ratio

Hopefully in the future Flightscope will provide better support, although in the meantime to "limp along", seems like a decent option is to buy an Amazon Firestick or Apple TV (version 4 or greater)

                  1. AirPlay to the device (Firestick, or Apple TV)
                  2. Use Accessibility features to "Zoom" in

Tried it out and its better than nothing...

When I’m zooming in using IOS accessibility through FireTv, the entire screen that is mirrored doesn’t get larger. There is still space all the way around.

I found using the “screen magnifier” you can keep enlarging till it fills at least the horizontal portion...
