  • Mevo+ inaccurate distances help

Hi guys, I’m on day 3 of trying to get the mevo to read correctly and getting a little frustrated. Ive got it set up in the garage. I have 18 ft to work with and have watched videos and read articles trying to get the right set up. I’ve varied the distances from net to tee and tee to mevo.
    im using the metallic stickers.
I was fully anticipating being humbled a bit by distances but these are just too short. I’m usually 150 8 iron at the course and range.
mevo is giving me 125 max.
driver I am usually around 230-275 let say.
I can’t get a driver past 215 on the mevo. I have really laid into them and I just think something is wrong.
I've messed around with the alignment and the angle countless times.

any suggestions I am not thinking of?
    Thanks so much everyone.

I thought I might add to this thread. My distances seem pretty close with every club except my driver. I carry my driver outside 250-260. On Mevo the best I get on average is 210-215. I’m carrying my 3hybrid 215 on mevo. It’s strange. Is there something I could do to fix this?

Really depends on ball speed and distance from ball to screen. If BS is less than 160-ish and you have more than 8 feet to screen you should be getting better results than that. I would call FS and ask them to see if there is any interference in the room causing m+ to be inaccurate.

I’ve been trying to call FS but it’s long distance and I’m in Canada. Hard to sit there for 30+ min on hold. Do they have a toll free #? I’ve also emailed them but I have not heard back.. eventually I’ll get someone!

I’m new to Mevo+ and at the range today my measurements were consistently short. I lasered several targets on the course and my shots were typically 10-15 yards longer than measured. The unit was set about 7-8 feet back. The elevation and atmosphere was correct. I even tried switching to metric thinking I had a glitch. Nope. Even “shorter”.

    thoughts???

were you using range balls? they typically don't go as far

helping wind? comparing carry distances or total distances? the total distances - esp now (late summer + dry) cannot be compared. you will get a ton of roll in real life that the LM can't take into account.

Did you have the Mevo+ set in Outdoor mode? That's important. Otherwise, could be limited flight range balls, wind, or elevation change between tee and target.

Hello - I have the same issue. In the garage with about 16 feet to work with. Have mevo plus 7 ft behind the ball with 9 feet of flight distance. I’m hitting sideways in the garage. My swing speed is 95 with the driver and I’ve got brand new TaylorMade irons. I’m puring 8irons and getting 125 of carry distance. I know it’s reading about 10 yards short on all my clubs. I’ve been through every setting and messed with my setup quite a bit. Only thing I can do is change the ball type from standard to range which will artificially inflate the number back to where I should be but that’s a hack.

My question is - if I were to rent a trackman bay for an hour at the store, could I put this next to the trackman and see if the distances side by side to make sure they are similar? Or would the 2 radars interfere?

    Thanks

Can you post your data from the table screen? Also if you do get Trackman data post that as well. There is a difference between on course yardage and carry distance. Golfers with low swing speeds usually see a big difference since your launch angle and landing angle is very shallow in comparison. Lower landing angles promote a lot of roll. Carry is decided by three data points ball speed, launch angle, and spin.

If the two radars use different frequencies, they should not interfere.

Thanks guys. Here’s a screen shot of some 6 iron data. Again not sure what to make of it but driver swing speed is around 95. I’ll try to get trackman time this week and put them side by side - thinking that’s the only way to know.

Most people should swing driver 15-20 mph faster than their 6 iron.

Perhaps the system is off but your swing speed numbers with a 6 iron are appropriate to a hair slow for a sriver swing at 95. Assuming that club speed is accutlrate, the basllpeeds make sense.

For reference my 150 yd club has a club speed around 84-86 mph with ballspeeds around 105.

As referenced above the height (assuming this is accurate) is quite low considering you are launching the 6 iron very high, so you may be used to factoring in alot of roll for distance.

Thanks for the feedback. Swing speed makes sense but on the course I hit it at a pretty good height. I don’t hit low balls or factor in a lot of roll and can usually stop the ball pretty well. Given launch and spin I wonder if there is something up with my setup in the garage. Either way I’ll get to a Trackman at some point and see if there’s a significant difference.

Hello. I just joined, as this thread caught my attention...Thanks to everyone who contributed here!

My Mevo+ experience has been very similar to the original poster and several others here... I got my unit early in 2021 after a long production delay. Once I had the proper iPad, we were rolling, but I quickly began to question my distances. I reached out to Customer Service, because I was convinced something was wrong... The people at Flightscope's customer service were very kind and diligent. Despite being on the other side of the planet (South Africa) they were very courteous, communicated well. and we tried countless variables. After months of troubleshooting, and customer service having exasperated all options, I finally took the unit outdoors to a nearby range.

I used old worn out range balls without stickers and compared the Mevo+ yardages to the known and posted yardages at the range, the distances shown on my Golf GPS App, my laser rangefinder and even a SkyCaddie. The yardages on the Flightscope fell well short and my suspicions were confirmed. The posted yardages, GPS app and Laser rangefinder were all in agreement., while the SkyCaddie was too generous (maybe 5% too long). Two of my single digit handicap friends have observed and used my Mevo+ and agree the distances are short. Earlier this year, a good friend brought his Foresight Quad to our indoor hitting bay and the (my) distances were again confirmed.

Despite my disappointment, I decided to live with it. The Mevo+ is a good indoor practice tool. The ball tracking and flight path are all very believable / accurate. However, it's challenging to enjoy the simulation and courses when my clubs are consistently too short. By too short, I'm talking about 20% on every club. My driver struck well goes 240-250, but Mevo+ will say 190 - 200. My 7 iron is my 150-160 club, but Mevo+ rarely records a 7 iron over 125 yards for me. On the course, I would grab 9 iron to go 125 yards.

I'm just about to give up on this unit. Thanks to those who have posted on this thread, I plan to experiment by adjusting the altitude, as I ordinarily use 'Sea Level.' I will also purchase some RCT balls, but I don't expect that to help. (I've got one Ace to my name and I did it with a Noodle Long & Soft. Thus, I used Noodle Long & Softs with my simulator. They aren't the best, but they are far better than the range balls I referenced earlier.)

I live in Kansas and I have been practicing indoors and using my Mevo+ A LOT lately - more than my wife prefers... I won't get rid of this thing before I have exhausted all options and found a suitable replacement, but with what device should I replace it with? I swing Left handed. Thus, a Skytrack or Quad does not appeal to me, as my RH son often practices with me. For the price and features, my research continues to point me towards the Mevo+ but the prospect of buying A SECOND Mevo+ makes me very nervous. I have the belief that I just happened to get a lemon, but buying another one and getting another lemon could send me to a mental hospital. Any thoughts or advice here is warmly welcomed. (If anyone has heard of a new product release in 2023 or even 2024, I might be able to exercise some patience. I've not heard of anything though.)

bubbtubbs, thank you. 8'6"' to screen and 8'6" to Mevo+... and I promise - I worked with Customer Support on our set up details for months. We hit 'all of the above' more than once. I'm not sure who was more exhausted them or me. Ultimately, I had checked off every box. They stoodby their product, while I have stoodby my experience (proof at the range, personal experience indoors, and testimonies of single handicappers who have used my Mevo+)... I did just download the new FS version that just became available. I'll try that out tonight, and order some RCT balls.

Mirek_62 ...thanks! I had not heard of the X3, but I don't know if my boss will go for a $12k toy. If I buy an X3, I have a sense my 'net cost' will end up costing me a lot more than $12k! LOL!

Update: I contacted the Seller (Rain or Shine Golf). I gave the Sales rep my story. He apologized for my unusual troubles and asked me, "Have you ever sent it back to Flightscope to have it recalibrated?"

Of course, my deer in the headlights answer was 'no.'

I was excited to hear of this "recalibration" potential, but it's winter in Kansas. I'm using the Mevo+ several times a week right now and not excited to give this thing up for months, I asked if this is something that could be done in the U.S. (rather than shipping it to the original manufacturer in South Africa) and he said, "Oh yeah. Atlanta."

I'm pretty encouraged. I'll reach out to FS and let you know what I find out...

If you've exhausted all other avenues, it might be the unit. My average carry is 169y with a 36° 7i, though I have 11' of flight distance.

Thanks bubbtubbs. I’m not a long hitter by any means, which makes this all the more frustrating. (My 7 iron is my 150-160 club, while Mevo+ tells me 120-125.) I don’t have any extra yards to give away. I’ve noticed that many on here prefer their distance between unit and ball to be around 7’8” - 8’. I’ll try reducing that distance from 8’6” and see if I can extend ball to screen any further than 8’6”. I’ll input that information into the app too. I don’t expect a miracle if much difference at all, but I’m going to try it. FWIW, I don’t have many non-reads. It rarely misses a full swing shot, though putting is a different story and something I attribute to the drop off from my 4’ wide mat…

I’ve left a voicemail with FS support and sent an email citing my original case number. My email elicited an automated reply. Hopefully, I’ll know more next week. Thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas

        Hey guys,
I got similar problems with my Mevo+.

Built an indoor simulator with a lot of space! Got 14 feet of ballflight - and ball to radar is "unlimited"...
Tried it with 7, 8 and 9 feet behind the ball - didn't change anthing.
Working on it for 5 days now - don't get it done...

Shorter Irons seem to work ok - but long irons and woods are horrible.

I am a former playing professional and I know how to play golf a little

I figured out, that launch angles seem to be the main problem in my case.
My driver is launching at 9° on mevo - of course that results in a short carry...
Swingspeed is slow after a few wrist surgeries - is down to like 105 - that is picked up correctly, Ball Speed is allright as well.
But in combination my Driver distances is 180 Meters in carry on the Mevo...

In real life (and on Trackman for example) I am launching my driver at 14° - I am really hitting up on the ball...

Could the offset in height be the problem? Mevo on the floor and 3cm hitting mat?

Also have a weird ballflight since updating to the new firmware. Balls are all "drifing" left at descent.
They are starting DEAD Straight like a frozen rope in the middle - and mevo corrects the ball flight then at descent and "draws" it a couple of meters at the end.
Even if I am devo hitting a fade... Looks like the picture is turning left - really weird and hard to describe
Didn't have that phenomenon with the prior firmware...

Update… I took my golf screen down and reinstalled it further from the hitting area. Doing so allowed me to increase the ball flight to screen distance more than a foot and to 9’8”. I then reduced the distance from Mevo+ to ball from 8’6” to 7’8”. These changes alone have improved my distance figures. I’m going on day Private Messages of some virus and only hit balls for one session, but hit enough to quickly identify an improvement. 8 irons now measuring in the low 130’s and driver in the low 230’s. My 8 irons had been measuring 110 to 115, while driver had been 190 to 200 yards.

For kicks, I set up my SkyCaddie SC200 along with my Mevo+ and took measurements. The SC should not work indoors with such limited ball flight. However, it was giving me very believable yardages. Measuring distances is about all it’s really good for and it’s a $200 not $2,000 unit. Still it was an interesting observation.

I also tried some brand new Titleist ProV1 RCT balls. I love how I don’t have to worry about which way the sticker is facing or knocking a sticker off, as there are no stickers. However, the distance readings were not as long as what my 2 year old Noodle Long & Soft balls were giving. Both balls appeared to be giving excellent ball flight and trajectory information. I’m disappointed with the RCT distances, but I am glad I tried.

The improvement I have gained is probably going to send me to Land of Good Enough For Now… At the end of the day, I am using this for a practice and improvement tool, which with my bogey golf skills it’s capable. If was legitimately trying to break 75 or giving lessons, I don’t know that I could settle with the suspect yardages. (I may still tweak with the Altitude settings and hack it into thinking I am hitting balls in the mountains. I will need to do quite a bit of experimentation in order to make confident strides doing that.)

FWIW, my customer support friends at Flightscope have not been overly responsive during this Christmas and New Years season. I called twice, emailed twice and sent an instant message. They did respond and were somehow (I don’t know how) able to find my numbers and determine that everything looks like it’s working correctly, but I could send it in to them and they would run it side by side with their X3. I agreed to do that, while asking for shipping instructions, an address, etc., but I have not heard back since Friday morning 12/30/2022.

Special thanks again to bubbtubbs, mirek_62 and everyone else who has contributed thoughts and ideas here. I have been very frustrated with this unit and was getting desperate. I am not perfectly pleased with MY Mevo + but have some peace now. Thanks everyone. If I have anything new to report or add, you will hear from me.

I'm having the same short distances problem. My Mevo+ isn't even close.

Lots of threads on this, but no solutions. Has anyone figured out how to fix this or a workaround?
