I am new to the forum today! I am doing a simulator build currently with a Mevo+. I have had about a week now and I am getting good readings with 8iron and below, actually very accurate. When i get to 7 iron- 4 iron mevo+ starts reading crazy long distances. I am a scratch golfer and know my game pretty well and I know I dont carry a 7 iron 188 with 193 yard total. I can hit 8 balls with a 7 iron and i get same readings within 2 yards so its consistently doing this. I typically carry 7 iron 178-180 with total roll 183-185. I carry 6 iron usually 190 or so,with roll 195-198 tops but i get readings of carry 199 total of 210. Like i said with short irons my readings are on point. It seems like my carry distances are more like my totals should be with mid to long irons. I am set up sensor to ball 8 ft and 8 ft ball to net. I get these readings both on app and E6 connect. I have noticed that E6 likes tilt at 12 degrees and app likes it around 15 degrees for some reason. I have settings at indoor short and i have mevo+ sitting flush level with ball all the way to net. I am seeing many post that the Mevo+ reads short but definitely not my case. I am looking to see if anyone has ideas? By the way i use the metallic stickers every shot!

Have you ensured your set up is correct? Just read in another thread FS support suggesting a few things to someone who was hitting short. Might want to check that out. Also what is the environment that you were hitting in and could there be any interference?
Is the ball you are using your gaming ball? Another person posted short reads was hitting on a e6 range into the wind, have you checked this? Have you been on other monitors to know your spin and how are the numbers comparing? My last comment is one that I am always curious about with Mevo+, but are we sure it is accurate with only 8 feet of ball flight? Especially for higher swing speed players.
Final thing that makes me curious is whether or not your mat could be a contender of a possible issue? I have only heard of people grumbling with the mat taking too much off, but perhaps with a better player it’s like hitting with the ball teed up all the time? This one is a long shot, but just throw it out there.

I am not 100% sure on set up. I have reached out to FS to find out what environment this thing likes best. My set up is level all the way to net and my distances are exact from sensor to ball and from ball to net. Sheetrock behind net. No walls left or right of net. I am building a better setup now but this is my current situation. I have concerns with the FS app telling me a different Tilt than what E6 tells me. FS app also tells to rotate M+ but its level to ground and the camera alignment line is perfectly vertical with target. The app has me rotate 2 degrees and it makes alignment line off and not straight up and down. I went through my bag last night hitting 4 to 5 shots with each club in FS app so there was no wind in the equation. The mat im sure plays some in the equation. I am using the exact ball i would on course but with a metallic sticker. I bought a new set of PXG ST early spring so i don not know my distances exactly. I got fit with PXG on a trackman and my carry distances were not this high. Ive played PXG for 4 years now and this set is their blade version without the injection so they should actually be shorter if anything on distance. The do spin less than other PXG models. I have a buddy down street that has a trackman and I am dying to go there and compare numbers but this Covid crap has that delayed.

Best of luck with the testing, maybe you're hitting the new irons flush and it's giving you a little more distance

New sticks are solid but I cant hit it that far. I wish I could! Strange thing is the problem is isolated to mid to long irons.Last edited by Wormburner; 05-01-2020, 04:24 PM.

If your friend is willing to and you can get 10 feet of ball flight (maybe going down to 7 feet TM to tee, I would see if he would be open to lending you his TM for a few hours? If you want, I can shorten up my distances to see if I am getting readings with 9 feet of ball flight and 7 feet tee to TM? Note I have TM4, TM3e needs 8 feet unit to tee.

I am currently 8ft M+ to ball and 8ft ball to net. My set up that I am building is 11 ft ball to screen and 9ft M+ to ball. I am new at this and you think more room between net and ball could benefit? I would be curious to what results you would get if you had the time to tinker with it. I doubt i will be able to borrow his unit, he never moves that thing! It is a great idea to duplicate the environment and see results. Again I thinks its odd that i am getting spot on readings with wedge shots through 8 iron and then numbers begin to separate more between clubs.

Wormburner my fear is the clubs you are having issues with are the longer clubs that have a higher ball speed which thus gives your unit less time to capture proper ball data. It is strange that it is happening with irons, but I just think 8 feet is rather short for radar. I think I read a thread of someone who had nine feet tee to screen and was getting weird results with his driver and squeezing things out to 10 feet resulted in much better readings.
In terms of testing with my TM4, it was really only if your friend was willing to lend you his unit, I would just check to see if I could get it to pick up readings at 7 feet unit to tee and then 9 feet of ball flight. I have never tried anything less than 10 feet before and just wonder if it would give any reading at all given that they note 10 feet minimum in their set-up requirements.

Hi,
I just went through your numbers and looked at the average distance gap:
PW-9Iron: 15.25
9I - 8I:14.55
8I-7I:15.33
7I-6I:13.1
6I-5I: 10.6
5I-4I: 5.55
4I-3I: 8.95
So the really difference starts with the 5 Iron
I wouldn't be too concerned about 8I/7I.

gaps are not really the main concern yet but I do want to get to that point. I mishit more of the long irons as well but my data was based around 4 shots each club so i probably should have hit more. I was more focused on my true carry vs M+ reading carry. My true carry is accurate up to the 8 iron carry then when I get to the 7 iron my carry starts being longer than I actually carry it. It just seems like my carry starts increasing on 7 iron. I do see where you are coming from if this was a club fitting to close in these gaps but I dont think its reading good enough for me yet to start bending my irons to correct the gaps yet. Eventually i would like to trust this enough to bend clubs to get consistent gaps. Thanks for commenting

Carry is only a byproduct of a flight model which uses -measured- parameters like spin, ball speed, launch angles, etc. So if you're seeing long carry it is due to lower spin numbers than "usual" because that has a massive effect on carry distance. If you had another device (skytrak or gc2) to compare to you could diagnose the problem. However if you don't I would ~guess~ that it is the interaction of ball and hitting mat. I've tested different mats (I think I saw some magazine did that too?) and the spin difference is significant. If you're going to compare to TM, you must test both devices in same conditions (I know obvious but just in case). We did comparison between TM3e, FS Mevo+ and SkyTrak and you can look at the results on our FB page - conclusion = they are DAMN close to each other

A lot of guess work going on here on my part as the data you posted only had carry distance and spin but if you feel the 8 iron is correct to get roughly 175 carry with 7000 spin and a 18* launch (guess by me) you’d need roughly 125 ball speed based on Flightscope optimizer. My experience and the PGA Trackman data suggest you gain roughly 6 mph of ball speed every iron and drop 2* of launch. So let’s say that holds then you 6 iron ball speed would be about 137 with a 14 launch and 5000 spin then your 6 iron would carry 205 which is basically what it did. I did everything at sea level so if you’re at elevation the ball speeds will be lower but gap still roughly the same idea.
Is it possible your hitting your long irons a bit crisper off the mat than turf? That would be the opposite problem I have but maybe there’s something in contact with the less lofted irons.
I’m laughing a bit (and don’t take this the wrong way) but the top two threads are Mevo+ goes too far and Mevo+ goes too short. I get involved in bargaining a lot in my day job and always say if both side think it’s too far one way it usually means things are just right.

Good info. HaHa, I do not take the wrong way but I will say 10 out of 10 golfers think they hit it farther than they actually do! Rarely do people complain of too far results I imagine. I figure this thing the Mevo + is somewhat accurate but just needing ideas on what I can do to optimize environment to get most consistent results. After reading reply's i bet it is the mat and that is something that will never produce same spin as grass. I have a CCE mat and Net return mat so I will do some experimenting. Thanks for info.

I have a skytrak and am on waiting list for M+. I am a 0-3 handicap and when I tested my fitted mizuno blades. I was hitting my pw thru 7 iron I had perfect gapping on carry and when it got to the 6 it increased to 23 yards to 198 then 5 iron went 201 and 4 went 203. I always just thought I didn’t hit my 5 and 4 well. Bought a bender and a loft and lie machine and fixed my gaps. Also fixed my lie and I am flushing the ball straight as ever and now my 4 iron is awesome Anyway keep testing and let us know what you find. And who ever said I needed to be two degrees up lied 😀

Yeah I will keep thread going once I narrow down how much mat is affecting ball spin. I took out to range and spin went up a thousand rpm and yardage gaps seemed better. I just thing I hit certain irons crisper on mats and ball spins less. I will continue to test and let you know what i figure out. Thanks for input.
