  • Mevo+ vs SkyTrake First Comparison

First run! SkyTrak vs Mevo Plus. More to come. Let me know what you think and what you want to see. I feel like ST holds side spin, so no spin decay. Thoughts? Best watched on a PC/Laptop Full Screen because of split screen. More comparisons to come using same software etc. Sorry for the title type SMH!

This is a great start. You have HD golf as well right? For the driver shots, how about another video using hd golf as your “control?” Without a 3rd unit to compare, how do we know the SkyTrak is wrong and mevo is right in this comparison? Use E6 since it’s available for both units, and let’s compare ball speed, backspin, side spin, vertical launch, and horizontal launch angle.

That would be the slam dunk video everyone with a SkyTrak would want to see

I like the question above with HD golf or the Uneekor as the control to get all the measurements possible.

The driver shot off the toe is the most interesting because I'm not sure which one is correct. If the Mevo+ is correct, then Skytrak has a high draw tendency. If the Skytrak is correct, then Mevo+ isn't getting spin axis right. Big question mark there.

Yep that is the plan Uneekor QED most likely since so many people know and trust it

I also look forward to that. It will be interesting to see that. I have my ST and Mevo+ going at the same time all the time and on toe hits that start right, I get the complete opposite numbers. Draw with ST and slice with M+. I feel the M+ is incorrect on Toe hits. FS says they measure SA indoors, so not sure why it seems off. Center hits seem fine.

I love these tests you do. I’m looking forward to the video with HD, Mevo+, TM4, SkyTrak and Uneekor all catching the same shot (good luck finding enough PCs to capture all the data).

I had a SkyTrak for 2 years before my Mevo+. The SkyTrak shipped out before the M+ arrived but I’ve hit both against TM4 separately and have my own anecdotal views after hitting thousands of shots.

SkyTrak HLA isn’t very good. I often found clear pushes read as pulls or centre shots could read as pushes or pulls. It’s not so bad it isn’t playable but it was noticeably off for me no matter how much I adjusted setup. I hung a Centre string and hitting the string on multiple shots could get a pull, push or centre shot at any given moment without moving unit or ball.

SkyTrak over emphasizes spin axis. The range has no spin decay from what I understand but I also feel the measured spin is often too high. I just don’t hit the massive hooks in real life that SkyTrak would produce constantly in their software and TGC.

SkyTrak ball speeds were low on 3w and driver and carry was way low. I sold mine before more recent software upgrade so I’ll give it a pass as this may have been fixed.

M+ everything is spot on for me except spin axis from what I can tell. I’m holding out that .09 firmware will improve this but right now I’m not confident in spin axis. This is primarily on shots that start right with fade spin or maybe toe strikes that simply shoot miles right on my unit (I think it gets direction right but not how far right it goes).

having had both I think M+ is better value at same price point if you have 17-20’ of room. SkyTrak has the better range but getting an included 5 courses of sim is big for an entry level price conscious user. And ability to use the device outside well is a nice perk even if not your primary usage. I took my SkyTrak to the range a few times and even days with sun it rarely worked well for me. That said SkyTrak has the best free software I think (I count it as free but I guess you could argue it’s $100 per year) and if you can visually just cut the curve in half in your mind I think it’s a great practice tool.

This is basically my experience. SkyTrak struggled with 3w and driver--ball speed was way low (compared to GC2 at the time) and carry suffered. I play a draw and on skytrak it was a hook. I'd get to the course and see different shots and end up way right until I adjusted.

M+ has some issues but again, better overall value for me.

I agree with Gresh12 and trumb1mj on the evaluation. I still have my ST and compare it often to M+. I don’t draw the ball well with driver or 3W IRL. Maybe slightly but its just usually straight or a tiny fade. With ST I show a draw all the time. M+ shows straight or a fade. Maybe a bit of indoor swing with long clubs? Possibly.
I find with TGC2019 that is still attached to ST, that I still get a draw sometimes, but I believe that TGC uses its own flight model, so it really should have nothing to do with ST unless ST spin numbers are incorrect.

As for the .09 firmware, with my unit FS did a fantastic job correcting the right spin axis. Center shots don’t have that problem anymore. Find it closer to ST numbers but always less, but more realistic to my ball flight. Club speed and ball speed are higher on long clubs with M+ but I find shot clubs carry to be too long.
Off center hits such as toe are still an issue IMO. They always show a right spin axis if ball is starting right of center. ST shows it much different. I watched the crowdcast that FS did for their FS app and the FS rep stated that spin axis IS measured and not calculated indoors. If that is true, then that is great news. I just don’t understand the readings I’m seeing with off center hits. If I have a miss with the driver, it is often out on the toe. I never see it go far to the right, just a straight push and occasionally see it turn back to the left. It’s about the only time I can draw my driver. With the Mevo+ it will always show as a slice. If its truly reading that spin axis, it should not do that. ST is showing a draw every time even if it is definitely overstated. Toe hits spin axis between the two are very different on toe hits. Which one is correct, I don’t know but I feel the M+ is not.

As for Skytrak, I actually have a greater appreciation for it then I ever did before. I have had mine since 2015 and it has been excellent. It has its weakness like missed shots and HLA at times can clearly be way off. Flight model is better in new update but still seems draw bias. But it is a great value and for people with tight areas it will perform excellent.

I just like the FS Mevo+ for its versatility of indoor and outdoors (in sunshine), data points, lack of missed shots, and instant feedback and not swinging at my LM. I’m having growing pains with my M+ but FS has been excellent and we are almost there so its getting better and better. There support has been second to none. Personally I’m surprised they only charge what they have for them.

I think they're measuring more club data and not displaying it, similar to the Xi launch monitor, where over time you could pay to display more metrics, they just might not allow for that with the Mevo+, unless they decide to discontinue the Xi models

Very early on support told me the unit is capable of club path and face angle but those parameters are not displayed. I asked if they ever upgraded the M+ for those parameters would I need another device or not and he said he thought it was unlikely they’d be provided later but like the Xi series it could be done via software.

Given how accurate mine is except spin axis vs TM4 I think it’s too much pressure on X3 if they unlock face and path (even though I’d desperately want it). I appreciate X3 has other features but would they be worth it for 8x price or whatever difference is.

It would be very cool if club path were added on, even if it’s at a cost imho. It certainly makes sense that in some shots were there just aren’t enough revolutions for a proper spin axis measurement, having face to path help estimate spin axis. I would love for the Mevo+ to be 100% accurate on spin axis indoors and outdoors, but since that’s something that only radar units costing 19k are capable of, might be a big ask.

For me, whenever I get my unit, I hope ball speed and spin are consistent enough to be able to provide Distance fitters (like Callaway is doing now), but if I’m tracking dispersion looks like it will only be truly accurate outdoors.

Jay’s videos are really useful; they help reset my expectations for the unit

WOW! A LOT going on here! MEVO+ vs SKYTRAK vs UNEEKOR QED! All on E6 Connect! Would have been a marathon to do more than wedges and irons. Driver, putting, chipping coming as well! What do you think?
