    Mevo+ & TGC19 Short chipping

How short of chips can any of you get with M+ and TGC19. I’m having an issue that I can’t seem to figure out. Best I can get is 9 yards. And that is carry only. Total obviously is longer. It will read putts well of 7ft. Everything else seems fine, but I have not played an actual round. Couple of holes. Thats when I noticed. On ST it would read very short chips.
I transferred this from my ST. Have updated TGC to current. UI is for Flightscope.
The odd thing is with E6 connect PC, I can chip very short. I can get a 5ft chip all the time. Switch to TGC19 and 9 yards at best. Same setup. Tried 12 deg tilt. Tried 16 deg tilt. Tried 17 deg tilt. Tried 7ft to tee. Tried 8ft to tee. Tried 9ft to tee. M+ level with tee. Correct club selected. Tried in chipping and putting range. Tried on course just off green. Still 9 yards at best.
Light on Mevo+ is not changing that it has recognized a shot. It feels like something is telling it to not recognize anything under that. It it can recognize a putt of 7ft then it should be recognizing at chip of 10ft.
Using ball with metal dot. Tried without dot. Tried with 3 metal dots lol 😝
Going to be hard to play a round when the ball is just off the green and pin is 8 ft away. Lol 😂 Lets see, pitch it back down the fairway so I have a 90 yard shot back to the pin.

What about the mevo range? Any difference there? There's been some discussion about mevo and short chips and putts. I'm wondering if because it's radar based that the ball has to travel a certain distance in order to get a good read? I hit short chips (carry distance of only 2 yards) on tgc with skytrak with no problem. I don't think its really a tgc thing although it's odd that it's different between tgc and e6.

I've had issues with ultra short chips in TGC (haven't noticed it in E6 but I've played very little E6). I've found the best approach is to open my 60* and hit a flop as getting the ball up a bit seems to help. But even still I often reserve myself to not getting it close. I haven't tracked the exact distance where it starts to be a struggle but I'd say I get 1 chip every 5-7 rounds where I struggle with this.

If the shortest chip I can get to register is 25 ft carry then it won’t be playable. That will produce a 40 ft plus total or more depending on the green slope and speed. Mevo+ will pick up 5ft carry chip with E6. No reason it should not be able to do the same in TGC19. Software is just waiting to receive the data. What’s holding the Mevo+ from picking it up?

I didn’t read carefully enough. I thought you said 9 feet not 9 yards. I can get carries inside 9 yards in TGC no problem. Under 10’ is my struggle.

I’ll play with it a bit tonight to get some better numbers but my struggles are one every handful of rounds not what you’re facing.

        Thanks Gresh. Appreciate it.
What’s your setup. I’ll try it. I would be happy with 10’

pwade3 I did a bunch of testing for you this afternoon. I should have kept notes as I tried a bunch of things but feel free to ask questions. Keep in mind I'm on firmware .08 still so in theory the updates to .09 beta that you have may fix some things and break others.

      Setup
      - Fiberbuilt practice station on my garage floor. So hitting area raised just under 2" all around (i.e., I don't have flat to my net or to my M+).
      - Net Return mini net. I generally say I have 9' from hitting area to net but this is really 9' to front of frame and the way the net hangs my ball probably strikes netting at 9.5' on full shots and 10' on very short chips.
      - M+ is raised on a platform to be approximately .25" below mat surface height and set at 0" tee height in software. I get the occasional no read (all it shows is zero ball speed and dashes everywhere else) on full shots but never anything that appears to be a misread on VLA, HLA, etc (my only concern is some wild push slices with low lofted clubs as I've spoken about elsewhere).
      - I had my M+ 8' from ball and at maximum tilt. The battery died before I thought about dropping the tilt (but I've found TGC prefers max tilt for me in general).
      - I used a ball with a dot for this test (it worked so I didn't think to grab one without)
      - I only tested in TGC as that was where you were having issues
      - I did "bump and runs" with 8 irons and "chips" with 55* and 60* wedges. There was no discernable differences between the 55* and 60* chips so I will just discern between the two types of shots as bumps (8i) or chips (W) to save me typing. I didn't mess around with flop shots.
      - I selected sand wedge as club for all the shots even the bumps as choosing 8 iron made nothing read (which didn't surprise me)

      Results
      - If the ball did not carry a minimum of 6' of actual distance M+ did not pick up a single bump or chip
      - If the ball carried between 6-7' it picked up many bumps and a few chips. For the bumps a lot that were picked up gave 0 yards carry with some getting 1 rpm of spin as well. This shot literally went inches when I had the ball in the rough but worked ok out of the fairway. For the bumps some picked up as 2 yards carry with 1500 rpms of spin which produced a reasonable shot in both the rough and fairway. For the chips that were picked up they basically all gave 0 yards carry and went nowhere.
      - If the ball carried between 7-8' it picked up almost every bump and most chips. Bumps almost always produced 2-3 yards carry with plausible spin. Chips still often gave 0 yards carry and occasionally gave 3 yards carry with crazy high spin (I carried one 3 yards and spun it back a yard).
      - If the ball carried 8-9' it rarely missed picking up a shot. The bumps were 2-4 yards carry with plausible spin. The chips occasionally still hit me with a 0 yard but it was rare and they usually had 2-4 yards carry with plausible spin (occasionally a spin of 5k which isn't right but not coming back at me).
      - If ball landed just before hitting the net or just hit the bottom of the net I got 3-5 yards of carry with plausible spin on both bumps and chips basically all the time. Once and awhile I'd get a high spinning chip but they weren't super common.
      - Throughout all distances there was a very rare crazy high launch angle with chips (probably 5 in the hundred shots I bet I hit) that would carry about 6-7 yards but had 50+ launch.

      Verdict
      - From the fairway I'll use the 8 iron and feel confident I can produce something reasonable for my sim round.
      - In the rough I'm going to be cautious and play a bit long if I can as I'd rather a long putt coming back than having the exact same shot again because the ball didn't move more than a few inches.
      - Clearly it's not accurate enough one would consider these shots practice on M+ but I learned enough to likely not waste too many sim shots personally.

Gresh12 Thanks for the detailed test. Outstanding. I tried everything you did in your test but ended up with the same issue I have been having. The shortest chip was 5 yards. It only happened once. To get any consistency I had to go about 9 yards carry. I tried the bump and run and still struggled to get anything under 6 yards. I tried everything you did then switched the application to E6 connect chip and putt range. I had one read 2ft. Could get 5 ft consistently. Not sure what is going on. I just can’t make sense of that. Thanks again.

You might want to compare the data being sent to the software. For your 5 foot chip...... what is your speed, LA, and spin.... Is the data being sent to the software the same as what reads on your phone or ipad? I have seen Mevo+ short chips.... where the speed is about 17 mph with 2500+ spin.... add a 25+ LA in there and you should have a pretty short chip.

I'm having the same issue on chips up to like 20' but having the issue on E6. It's the last kink I have to work out. Everything else is working even better than I expected but admit this one chip issue really does jam you up when playing a round. My only workaround now is to hit a mulligan if I happen to land within a 10-20' range but am off in the rough. If on the fridge I just putt but if in rough I have to hit it so hard it usually flies past the pin.

          Hey everyone
I have exact the same problem like "pward3", all chips shorter than 9yards the mevo will not read.
I think that the problem is in the "prozessing mode" of the unit.
When it is in "(short) indoor mode" it can't read chips shorter than 9yards. At leased at my unit.
I belive especially for this situation where is the "chipping mode".
But then I set it to the "chipping mode" my unit reads absolut no shot. So I have to let it in "indoor mode" to keep in game.

Maybe you can try if you have the same problem with the "chipping mode" if not, maybe this is the solution.

If you don't have the problems it will be great when you can give me the patch versions of your unit, interface and so on.

          Good luck
          BR

It depends on your target and settings. The mevo goes into different read modes depending on your target distance. It’s set in to about 27 yards. I forget the setting name but it’s on the same screen when you set fast putting distance. If you target is closer then 27 yards you can hit shorter chips to about 4-5 yards or less. If your target is more then 27 yards it’s looking for a higher ball speed and generally wont read less then around 9 yards of carry.

i have been playing with it all night with a target set to about 14 yards. It read ok.

it did not read very short flops and bump and runs at all however (less then 4-5 yards) carry. Anyone with luck here?
